I clamped my hands over my mouth to keep myself from screaming.

Marek immediately tensed, placing a hand on my back.

— Hey. Polya. What’s wrong?

I felt chills running down my spine.

— Mike, come on! We don’t have time! We’ll figure this shit out later! — Steph’s voice sounded like a jumble, like she was talking in some alien language that I couldn’t quite comprehend. What the hell was going on?!

— Polya! — Marek’s voice cut through my thoughts, and I felt his hand grip mine tightly.

I looked up at him, feeling my heart pound, my lips trembling. My gaze was wide, scared, and I knew the panic was clear on my face.

— Marek, I... — my voice was weak, barely more than a whisper. I swallowed hard, trying to find the words, but they seemed to elude me. I was on the verge of a full-blown meltdown. — Marek, I... I don’t know. Something... Something is wrong.

He looked at me, his eyes narrowing. He seemed almost angry, but not at me—no, I could sense his concern. It was like he was angry at the situation, at whatever had me on the edge of a panic attack.

— Polya, calm down, — he said firmly, but his voice was gentle, soothing. — Listen to me. I’m here. Everything is okay. I promise.

— Mike! — Stephanie tried to grab me, but Marek’s hand shot up, blocking her. His gaze was hard, unyielding.

— Touch her, and you’re dead, — he hissed, his tone sharp and threatening.

— Fuck you! You’re just an actor! — Steph shot back, her voice equally harsh. She pulled at me, trying to drag me away from him, but Marek’s grip on my arm tightened, and she froze, her face twisted in anger and frustration. — Mike, goddamnit, stop being a fucking zombie! Snap the fuck out of it and get your shit together! We have to leave, or else...

I could feel my whole body tensing, my chest tightening as the air seemed to be sucked out of the car, out of the whole damn universe. My head spun, my thoughts a jumbled mess. Was I Mike? Was I Apolonia? Was I... who the fuck was I?

— Marek, — I said, my voice strained, barely audible. I was on the verge of a total breakdown, my entire world tilting sideways. — Marek, help me, please...

— Enough of these 'Mareks' already! Enough already, Mike, stop making me angry! They did the same to me, but I haven't gone crazy! What the... Ugh! To hell with all this! If you want to live the rest of your life as a fucking housewife, then fine! But I'm not staying here! I'm done! This is the end! I tried, I really tried! It's not my fault that you're fucking brainwashed! — Stephanie spat and turned sharply, slamming the car door so hard it seemed like the entire vehicle shook from the impact.

— Hey, bitch, you don’t just... — Marek yelled after her, his face darkening with rage.

I was stunned, my mind struggling to catch up, my heart pounding in my chest.

What was going on?! Was this all real? Stephanie, me... Mike, the Town... the transformation... the contract... the rules...

Oh God, why the hell am I sitting here hugging this... husband? No-no-no! I need to get the fuck out of here! She said something about time and the central square? We must run after her before she goes too far!

I tried to move, but Marek’s hand immediately tightened around my arm, pulling me back. His eyes were wide with fear, and I understood that it was the fear of losing me. I felt it. But he was just... an actor. Why was he so scared? He really loved me. Loved?... Damn it, what the hell am I even thinking about... Why do I even care if he loves me or not?! He's a stranger! An actor! I don’t know him! And he made me believe that I was Apolonia all my life! That was... disgusting.

— Polya, calm down. Please, — Marek’s voice was low, almost pleading, but there was an edge to it that sent a shiver down my spine. He gently touched my cheek, but I jerked back. His hand was rough, the touch of a stranger, not of someone I knew. His eyes darkened, and I could see a mixture of anger and sadness in them. — Pola, you’re my wife. You’re...

— Let me go, you bastard! — I yanked my arm away from him and shoved him back. He stared at me, his eyes wide with shock, but I didn’t have time to think about it. — Fuck! I’m not your fucking wife! I’m Mike! Just Mike! And you—you’re a disgusting, perverted liar who brainwashed me into believing I loved your shitty ass! I can’t believe I sucked your cock and let you fuck me! God, you're fucking sick!

I could feel my whole body trembling as I shouted at him and saw how his face changed, how his eyes widened, how his mouth opened and closed, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t. Damn, what are those tears he has there?! Why is he looking at me like that?! And why my heart is hurting when I look on his tears?!

— Polya, I... — Marek’s voice was shaky, uncertain, and I felt a pang of something in my chest. I have never seen him so weak and vulnerable before. — Polya, I know you think... I know what you think of me now, but... but you have to understand. I love you. I love you more than anything else in the world. I swear, I... I’m not a monster, okay?

I blinked, trying to hold back the tears that were welling up in my eyes. No, it's just some stupid acting! This isn’t real. He’s not real! Staphanie is real. She is waiting for me. She’s my... girlfriend. And I have to go with her.

— Fuck you! — I spat, my voice thick with emotion. I pulled the door handle and jumped out of the car, slamming the door shut behind me. The cold night air hit my skin. I heard Marek’s muffled voice from inside the car, calling my name. — Pola! Pola, don’t!

Feeling my incredibly huge chest shaking as I ran, I suddenly remembered how I had cursed these two pieces of flesh a couple of months ago, and just this morning they had seemed natural to me. Damn it! I looked down. Even through my clothes, I could see the outlines of my big, firm breasts, and I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disgust. Fuck it. Now I have to get out of here. I can’t stay. Not with that guy.

— Steph! Wait! Please, I’m with you! — I yelled, running down the street, trying to catch up with her. But I couldn’t see her anywhere, and my chest was heaving with each breath, my breasts bouncing painfully with every step. I wanted to scream in frustration, but I pushed forward, ignoring the pain. — Steph, where are you? Where are you?!

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my arm, pulling me back. What?! Who the hell...?

— Polya! Stop! I won't let anyone take you away from me again! — Marek growled, his fingers digging into my skin, his eyes blazing with anger and fear. I tried to yank my arm away, but he held on tight. — I already lost you once and no one! Do you hear?! No one will take you from me again!

— What the fuck are you talking about?! Let me go! — I screamed, desperately trying to break free from his grip. His words made no sense, but the look in his eyes, the intensity, the desperation—it terrified me. I saw something in them, something that went beyond just his role as an actor. I didn’t have time to figure out what it was, because suddenly, out of the shadows, Stephanie appeared. Her eyes widened, and she lunged at Marek, her fists clenched. She slammed them into his chest, knocking him back, and he let go of my arm.

— Get the fuck away from Mike! — Stephanie screamed. Her face was a mixture of rage and fear. She grabbed my hand and pulled me away from Marek, her fingers gripping mine tightly. — Come on, Mike, we have to get out of here, we have to go to the central square before midnight! We have to...

— I’m not letting you take her from me! — Marek roared, lunging at Stephanie, his hands reaching for her throat. I watched in horror, frozen in place by the sheer force of his anger. I had never seen him like this before, never seen him so consumed by rage and desperation. It was terrifying. This wasn't my Marek... He was... Fuck, he was never mine! He was just a fucking illusion!

— Don't touch her! — I yelled, lifting from the asphalt the first thing that I could find and hitting him in the head with a heavy stone. Marek groaned and stumbled back, clutching his bleeding head.

— Polya! What the fuck...? — he whispered, his eyes full of pain and betrayal. He looked at me, his hand covered in blood, and I felt a pang of guilt in my chest. But then I remembered who he was, what he had done to me. I lifted my hand again, ready to strike, but he fell to his knees, his head hanging low. — Please... Please, don't go. Don't leave me alone again...

— Ten minutes Mike! We have to go now! — Stephanie shouted, grabbing my hand and dragging me away from Marek. I glanced back at him: he was still on his knees, holding his head, and his shoulders were shaking as if he was crying silently. — Fuck, Mike, why are you still staring at him? Let's go! — Stephanie yelled, pulling me with her.

But I couldn't stop thinking about him. About his words. About his eyes. About how he called me Polya and looked at me with such love and fear. I tried to tell myself it was all fake, just a part of the role he was playing, but part of me really wanted to go back to him, to comfort him. It's stupid. He's just an actor. He's nobody to me. He's nothing but a lie. Just a fucking lie. A fucking lie... A fucking...
