Emma ran her hand over the skin of her thigh, involuntarily feeling its smoothness with her fingertips. Memories flashed in her mind—her first time buying women's clothes, the awkward struggle to find the right bra, the discomfort of feeling tights against her legs, and even those damn monthly tortures called periods.
This year had changed her so much that Mark now felt like something distant, almost ghostly. It all seemed far away, like a dream that had long since dissolved in the morning light. She no longer felt "disguised." She was Emma. Completely. Her body had adjusted. Her mind had adjusted.
And that was the scariest part.
But maybe this was her chance? A chance to do everything differently?
Mark had hated his job. Hated the office routine, the endless calls, the meetings where he just nodded along, pretending to care. But now he had a second chance. She had a second chance. She could choose anything. She could become anyone.
But who?
She knew advertising, business, marketing. Maybe she should go back to that field? But on the other hand, she had a different body now, different circumstances. Who would take her seriously in a world where a 16-year-old girl suddenly tried to talk about corporate advertising strategies?
It seemed ridiculous. And she wasn’t even sure she wanted to go back to that industry.
Maybe she could just take those skills and use them in some other way? Or would her past experience be useless here? Everything from before felt so blurry now. And besides, she had to go through it all again—high school, college applications, growing up… Everything she had already lived through, but now in a new body, with a new perspective.
A shiver ran down Emma’s spine. She wasn’t even thinking of herself as a man stuck in a woman’s body anymore. She was thinking of herself as a girl who remembered her past life.
And that realization was terrifying.
Chaos raged inside her, but before she could make sense of her thoughts, a sharp roar of a motorcycle shattered the silence along the waterfront.
She flinched and quickly turned around, feeling her long hair slide over her shoulders and back, brushing against her skin.
It was Dan.
He was riding his sleek, polished motorcycle, its deep rumbling engine echoing through the area. That was the same damn bike he was so proud of, the one Emma absolutely despised. She always called it "his junk heap," but if she was being honest, she had to admit—there was something alluring, almost thrilling about that roaring, gleaming beast.
She hated how much she liked it.
Dan hit the brakes hard, stopping just a few feet away from her, and quickly killed the engine. His hair was windswept, his face tense and urgent. He shouted something, but the ringing in her ears and the lingering roar of the engine drowned out the words.
— Emma, get on! We have to go! — His voice was strained.
She frowned, not immediately grasping what was happening.
— What? Are you insane?! I’m not getting on that roaring deathtrap! — Emma shouted back, her eyes wide as she glared at the monstrous machine.
Just the thought of getting on that motorcycle sent a wave of fear through her. Her heart clenched, and every nerve in her body tensed. But even worse—she would have to sit behind him. That meant pressing up against Dan. And she… she was absolutely not ready for that kind of close contact.
Even though she had stopped acting like an ice queen around him, even admitted that, in some way, she kind of liked him… this was too much.
That thought made her eyes involuntarily flick downward—to her own breasts, which had grown so much over the past year.
She blushed furiously, her face burning.
— Are you out of your damn mind?! — she blurted out again before she could stop herself. Everything inside her rebelled against this idea. — If this is some dumbass excuse to get me to—
— Emma, not now! — Dan cut her off with a sharp exhale, stepping closer, his face twisted with worry. He grabbed her shoulders, trying to make her understand the gravity of the situation. His eyes were full of urgency, his breathing unsteady, like he had just run for miles. — Jessica is missing! We don’t have time! We need to go! I’m not fucking around, this is serious!
Her heart clenched instantly. Everything she had been feeling a moment ago vanished in an instant.
She paled, forgetting about her fear of the motorcycle, forgetting about her embarrassment, her hesitation. Her thoughts scrambled, her hands trembled as she tried to process what he had just said.
Jessica… was missing?
— I’ll explain later, just get on! — Dan barked, spinning around and smoothly swinging onto the bike.
They needed to leave fast, and he wasn’t going to waste time convincing her gently. So he pulled out his final card, pressing as hard as he could.
— Come on, Emma! What are you standing there for like a cowardly girl?!
