The Saturday evening was drawing to a close, but Emma and Jessica weren’t in any hurry to leave. They sat on the outdoor terrace of a small café, where the soft light from hanging lamps gently illuminated their faces, and the air was filled with the light aroma of freshly brewed coffee and vanilla syrups. On the table in front of them sat nearly empty cups and an empty plate that had once held their pastries. During their conversation, Emma and Jessica had moved back and forth between laughter and serious topics, like they were on a seesaw.

– I never thought I’d like sweets so much, – Emma smirked, leaning back in her chair. Her gaze drifted to the nearly empty cup in front of her. – I always laughed at girls and couldn’t understand why they were so crazy about these sugary things, – Emma finished with a smile, looking over at Jessica.

Jessica chuckled, smoothing her hair.

– Maybe it’s because you’ve finally realized how cool it is to be a girl? – Jessica teased, flashing a wide smile as she took the last sip of her coffee.

– Oh yeah, Jess, super cool, – Emma snorted, tilting her head slightly, her smile widening. – Especially when you consider that just a year ago, I was a man, – Emma finished, leaning back in her chair with a smirk.

– I already told you I believe you. Why do you have to remind me every five minutes? – Jessica rolled her eyes, though her smile remained warm. She reached for her phone to check the time but quickly put it down, deciding the conversation was more important.

– It’s you know... it's still kind of unusual that I can talk to someone freely about this. And, well, I... I keep reminding myself, so I don't forget, – Emma replied with a faint smirk, her gaze drifting off to the side. She leaned back in her chair, feeling the evening warmth wrap around their little terrace.

Jessica chuckled, studying her friend. Her gaze was a bit more thoughtful than usual, and after a few moments, she spoke, almost casually:

– By the way, I noticed something... – She leaned forward slightly, her eyes sparkling with mischief. – Your, um... your chest looks like it’s gotten bigger.

Emma choked on air, her eyes widening in surprise.

– What?! – she nearly shouted, suppressing a laugh while trying to process what had just been said.

– Yeah, – Jessica grinned, shrugging innocently. – Haven’t you noticed? Over the last couple of months, it’s... well, grown!

Emma covered her face with her hand, feeling her cheeks flush.

– Jessica, stop it! – Emma rolled her eyes dramatically, trying to hide her embarrassment, but her smile betrayed her.

Jessica, laughing, added fuel to the fire:

– Oh my god, you sound just like my mom right now: “Jessica, stop it!” – She mimicked a stern tone, crossing her arms over her chest and imitating Emma’s expression.

Emma burst out laughing, slapping her knee.

– Seriously though, you’re the one who brought it up! How is this even a topic of conversation? “Emma, have you noticed how your chest has grown?” Like that’s normal! – She pressed her hand to her forehead, pretending to be exasperated, but she was still smiling.

– What? It’s true! You’re, like, a real woman now! – Jessica smirked, giving her a playful wink.

Jessica’s words hit her in an unexpectedly deep way. Emma felt a tightness in her chest. Living in this body, she was growing used to being seen as a schoolgirl, getting used to the details—the soft curves, the shorter height, the lighter movements. But “a real woman”? That was something entirely different.

She took a deep breath and crossed her arms over her chest, which caused the fabric of her sweater to stretch slightly, emphasizing the changes she preferred not to dwell on. She noticed it herself and, feeling self-conscious, dropped her arms.

– Yeah, I’ve noticed... of course, I’ve noticed... – Emma paused, lowering her gaze to where the curves of her body were unmistakable beneath her fitted blouse. Her shoulders tensed slightly—the straps of the bra she’d recently bought with her mom dug lightly into her skin, a constant reminder that this was now part of her reality. – Okay, fine, I admit it. It’s become more noticeable.

She ran her fingers just below the line where her shirt tucked into her skirt, feeling how her narrow waist smoothly transitioned into the curve of her hips. It was hard to adjust to her figure no longer being a straight line, and every day it became more obvious. As if it wasn’t enough that everyone around her saw her as a schoolgirl, now her body was emphasizing it with every new change.

– It’s just... it’s all so weird, Jess, – she finally continued, feeling her cheeks heat up. – At the beginning of the year, when I... when it all started, there was almost nothing. And now... it’s like something changes every day.

– Are you serious? – Jessica raised an eyebrow, trying to hold back a smile. – You’re talking like this is some kind of cosmic bus transformation.

– Isn’t it, though? – Emma exhaled, clenching her hands into fists on her lap. – Jess, you have no idea what it feels like. – She suddenly fell silent, looking down at her hands before continuing in a quieter voice: – Every time I walk... I feel it. Right here. – She pointed to her side, where her skirt clung slightly to her rounded hips. – Or, you know, when I go upstairs, I can feel something... moving strangely. And then... I realize that it’s me now.
