You need to be careful with your wishes. This is a simple truth that many often forget about, especially when they do not believe in something supernatural, like detective Geri McDowell. Jerry did not know who Maria was and why she decided to go illegally to the USA, but he knew perfectly well that it was not because of a good life, but rather the opposite. He guessed that Maria was from somewhere in Eastern Europe and guessed that she did not live very well there.

Of course, she, like many other girls, was deceived and was not told that she would have to engage in prostitution in the USA and live there illegally, almost like in prison without the opportunity to just go out for a walk on the street. He found her body while working in the Coast Guard, to which he was sent because of his obstinate nature and because he did not like to follow orders from his superiors. The case of the unknown girl who jumped from the bridge and was unknown touched Geri to the core. He spent a huge amount of both work and non-work time just to find out her identity, but it did not yield any results.

His ambitions and thoughts that he was an excellent detective who simply did not please his superiors were destroyed before his eyes and this case became simply a matter of principle. In the end, he somehow ended up in a junk shop that sold supposedly magical items.

“I would like to fix her life, but at least find out who she is,” Jerry said that day, holding one of the “magic” objects in his hands, and of course, with a sad smile, he pretended that all this was stupidity when he saw how she was looking at him salesman. He had no choice that evening but to once again get drunk until he lost his memory.

This morning was bright and memorable for Jerry, who at first thought that he had slept with some other girl from the bar and that he woke up in her room, because it was obviously not his room. However, he did not see anyone near him that morning.

Throwing back the blanket and splashing down, for the first time in his life he felt strange sensations from the fact that his chest had become somehow heavy and from the unusual tickling of his shoulders due to the long hair that was touching him
