When Hayley came downstairs to the kitchen, her mother was already busy at the stove. The smell of frying bacon and omelets filled the room, making her new stomach grumble with discontent. Hayley... Harvey paused for a moment, looking at his "family." Everything seemed so unreal, as if he had ended up in someone else’s house, being forced to play a role that didn’t suit him at all.
But... he had to accept it. At least, for now.
Today, he instinctively dressed without thinking, letting Hayley's habits take over completely. Today, she chose something that would immediately catch everyone’s attention: short black shorts barely covering her thighs and a red top with a deep neckline that emphasized her young figure, revealing the slightly swollen curves of her new chest. On top, she wore a cropped denim vest that only amplified the effect. Yesterday’s day with Tommy — all those humiliating moments and Jessica’s jokes — for some reason, pushed her even more to look exactly like this: bold, provocative, as if she could hold the attention on herself that way. But beneath this mask, Harvey — the real Harvey — was cringing in shame and disgust at how his new body reacted to all of it.
“Finally, you’ve come down,” her mother turned to her angrily, hands on her hips. “You have no respect for us at all, Hayley! Yesterday you caused a scene, and today you’re dressed like... like...” she almost blurted out “like a slut,” but Harvey understood perfectly what she meant.
“Like what?” Harvey said softly, trying to keep his tone cold and detached. He didn’t like how his “mother” criticized his choice, even though he wasn’t thrilled about it himself, but right now it felt important — important to show how he looked. “What don’t you like?” he mumbled defiantly.
“Stop it! You know exactly what I mean!” his mother turned to the dining table, where his father was already sitting. He had a newspaper in his hands, but Harvey noticed how his fingers tightened around it, revealing that he was in no better mood. “Your father and I talked about your behavior for a long time yesterday. You’re simply uncontrollable! And that Tommy…”
Harvey sighed quietly. A real storm was raging inside him: fear, rage, and helplessness intertwined into one. But outwardly, Hayley just shrugged, as if none of it mattered to her.
“You’re grounded,” his father said coldly without even looking up from the newspaper. His voice was low, almost menacing, making chills run down Harvey’s spine. “No dates with Tommy. No going out with friends. No internet for the next week. And you come straight home after school. Got it?”
“What?! No way!” Harvey felt a sudden surge of rage. “I’m not a little kid!” he unexpectedly burst into a hysterical shout, stomping his foot so hard that a tense silence fell over the room. He was shocked himself at how quickly this outburst of anger flared up inside, as if some foreign emotional tornado had taken over his reactions.
His father slowly lowered the newspaper, looking at him tiredly over his glasses.
“See?” his mother turned nervously to her husband, her eyes flashing with hurt and irritation. “Did you hear how she talks? I knew yesterday’s incident wasn’t the last. It’s all because of Tommy! He’s a bad influence on her!”
“Oh, stop blaming him for everything,” Harvey snapped irritably, trying to speak more quietly, even though everything inside him was boiling. Tommy really was a jerk, but not in the way his “parents” thought. But suddenly he felt something warm and acrid rise inside — an unbidden urge to defend the guy. That scared him more than anything else. “Maybe it’s not Tommy, but the fact that you’re always trying to control me!” he retorted sharply, snorting and feeling his eyes filling with tears.
