However, they were wrong in many ways, William never wanted to be a woman, he never wanted to be gay, he just had a fetish for cross-dressing. But his parents didn't believe him and afraid of the shame that would bring down upon the Harker name, so after a lengthy discussion they came to a decision. William was sent to stay with a his aunt - Lady Penelope. Of course Lady Penelope already knew about William's deviance, and she assured his parents that she could cure him.
When he arrived at his aunt's, William was shown to his room. He was expecting it to be a nice luxury guest suite, instead he was led to a plain small room, with a single wooden bed and a chamber pot in the corner. There was no other furniture, and the room was sparse and cold. On the bed was a maid's uniform, complete with frilly white apron, small white headband and note. The note read "Change into this and report to the kitchen at once. Lady Penelope."
William had no desire to change into the female outfit, especially a maid's uniform, but he also understood that if he wanted to return home he'd have to obey his aunt. So, taking a deep breath, he slipped out of his male clothes, folding them neatly, and put on the maid's uniform. Until this moment no one has ever seen him wearing women's clothes and he felt ashamed and humiliated when he came to the kitchen and saw his aunt's servants looking at him, sniggering.
"Welcome, William," said his aunt slowly as if she was mocking him. "And that was the last time you're ever going to hear your old name. You are no longer William Harker the heir to the Harker estates. From now on you're Mary Smith, a daughter of a farmer and a lowly maid in my household. The person you were no longer exists. If anyone asks about William Harker, I will tell them that he left England, and is travelling in the new world."
"I don't understand" said William looking down through his glasses "What kind of role-playing games are these? You want me to wear all this for a whole... week?"
"You misunderstand me Mary, this is not a... role-playing game, as you call it. Your old life is gone, forever, and this is your future, until the day you die. Now" she waved her hand. "Mrs. Miggins, it seems to me that your... Mary (she wrinkled her face) is talking inappropriately"
"Stop, wait a minute, wait, Aunt Penel-" he started, but then suddenly he froze, unable to speak and move. Everyone and everything around him froze, except for his aunt. She was standing in front of him, a cruel smile on her face.
