Lilly's husband, a burly man named Cletus, arrived at the cafe in response to Jeb's call. Upon seeing Malcolm in Lilly's body, Cletus shook his head in disbelief but said little, opting to take his supposed wife home instead.
The car ride was a tense affair. Malcolm, still struggling in Lilly's body and now keenly aware of the weight of the wedding ring on his finger, attempted to explain the inexplicable situation. But every attempt was met with Cletus's scorn.
"Quit yer jabberin', Lilly. I don't know what game you're playin', but I ain't fallin' for it," Cletus grumbled, casting suspicious glances at Malcolm as he struggled to navigate the unfamiliar curves of Lilly's body in the confined space of the car.
Upon reaching Lilly and Cletus's home, Malcolm hesitated in the doorway, taking in the modest surroundings that were now apparently his. Cletus wasted no time, launching into a tirade as they entered the apartment.
"What in tarnation is goin' on with you, Lilly? You're actin' plum crazy, talkin' 'bout bein' someone named Malcolm. Ain't no Malcolm here but me, and I sure as heck ain't wearin' a dress."
Malcolm, now increasingly desperate to return to his former life, continued to protest. "Cletus, you gotta believe me! I don't belong here. I need to find a way back to bein' Malcolm. I got a life, a job, a reputation!"
Cletus, however, responded with derisive laughter. "Reputation? More like hallucination! You're my wife, Lilly, and that's that. Now, hush up about this Malcolm nonsense."
Undeterred, Malcolm continued to deny his new reality. "I gotta call someone, a friend, a male friend who knows me as Malcolm. They'll vouch for me, Cletus!"
Cletus's laughter echoed through the small apartment. "Ain't nobody gonna vouch for you, Lilly. You're talkin' pure nonsense. Now, shut yer yap."
The conversation took a darker turn when Cletus, seemingly oblivious to Malcolm's distress, mentioned his desire for intimacy. Panic set in as Malcolm, still grappling with the foreign sensations of Lilly's body, recoiled.
"Whoa, hold on, Cletus! I can't... I ain't ready for that," Malcolm stammered, his attempts at resistance met with dismissive laughter.
Cletus, unfazed, insisted, "You're my wife, ain't ya? What's the matter? Ain't you feelin' like yourself?"
Malcolm, now thoroughly alarmed, pleaded with Cletus to understand the gravity of the situation. "Cletus, you gotta believe me! I'm not your wife. I don't belong here. This is all wrong!"
Malcolm, now inspecting the apartment, clung to the hope that some remnant of his former life would reveal itself. "I don't belong here, Cletus. I need to call someone, a friend, who knows me as Malcolm. They'll set things straight."
Cletus, growing increasingly irritated, scoffed at Malcolm's futile attempts. "You can yap all you want, Lilly, but ain't nobody gonna believe you. And I sure as heck don't want to hear no more about this Malcolm fella."
The tension escalated when Cletus, in a brazen move, mentioned his desire for physical intimacy. Malcolm's eyes widened with alarm.
"Now, why don't we get reacquainted properly, Lilly?" Cletus leered, his intentions clear.
Malcolm recoiled, horrified at the suggestion. "Cletus, I can't... I'm not ready for that. This ain't right."
But Cletus, unyielding in his belief that Malcolm was merely playing a bizarre game, dismissed his protests with a sinister grin. "Quit yer fussin', Lilly. You're my wife, and that's that."
As Malcolm's distress reached its peak, Cletus delivered one final blow – a cheek-pinch that served as a painful reminder of the surreal nightmare Malcolm found himself trapped in. The pinch, coupled with Cletus's laughter, left Malcolm feeling utterly powerless in this strange new life that was, inexplicably, his own.
