John raised his gaze to Stephen and all his hatred was read in this look, but this is the only thing he was capable of now. John hated everything. At the very beginning, he found he was able to negotiate with Stephen in order to fulfill all the requirements of the government, especially when a decree was issued that all people under the effect of alt shift should continue to live as they did. John was sure that Stephen would do everything right and would not comply with this stupid law, and even if he did, he would take advantage of John's experience and make him a partner in the firm.
But everything turned out to be wrong, Stephen turned out to be not the best friend and gradually made John's life worse and worse. He threatened him that if he didn't act like Melissa, he would hand him over to the government and be sent to a conversion camp. At first everything was simple, there were only requirements for the dress code and the performance of the secretary's work. But even that was humiliating for John. He had to quickly learn how to put on short skirts, wear tights, high-heeled shoes, and do makeup in order to come in and do a humiliating and simple job for Stephen. Every time he tried to add his opinion or somehow make things better, Stephen immediately stopped him. John was forbidden to see his family and friends and was monitored by a special police department.
Soon Stevenn grew bolder and began to take advantage of the situation by telling that Melisa had always been a mistress and that John should do that too. After that, John wanted to drop everything and leave and just received the first warning and found out what was happening in the conversion camps, so he had to continue to fulfill this role.
