When Martin had figured out trans-dimensional transportation to alternate realities he was sure that it would make him famous. But he had to prove that it worked. He spent months and a lot of the universities grant building the machine. And weeks of time on the supercomputer to do the calculations. But he had done it. He had build a device that would swap your consciousness with your other self in an alternate dimension. And after a few hours it would swap you back.
Martin insisted on being the first to try it. His machine worked as intended. But Martin was still shocked when he had finished the swap. He knew some things would be different. But not this different.
From the math alone he knew the most probable outcome for him would be to be in a very similar lab. Hooked up to a very similar trans-dimensional transportation device. And be in a very similar body. Everything else was nearly infinitely improbable. But Martin was finding out that it was not so improbable as he thought. He was not in his lab, strapped to a device and in his body.
He was in a shoddy apartment, in his underwear and a woman. After a bit of research he realized that he was still himself. Just a version of himself where he was born with two X chromosomes. And most of his life had been pretty similar. Up until a few years ago. Instead of going to college at the age of 18, his female version in this reality got pregnant and got married. And now she lived regretting her decision with her tyrant husband.
Martin was a bit fascinated by this different version of himself ans also new sensations of boobs and vagina. Until he realized something. There would have to be an anchor in this reality for his device to be able to swap him back. The anchor was the transdimensional device in this reality. A device that did not exist. His device managed to swap their minds once. But it would not be able to connect to this reality again without an anchor. His colleges on his side would have to try random connections in the hopes of connecting to this reality. Martin knew that was basically impossible.
If Martin wanted to swap back he would have to build a new device. But even if he could get the money and the supercomputer it would still be very improbable to ever find his own reality again. Martin knew he was stuck in this new reality. And he feared that he would be considered crazy if he told anybody who he really was, not even imagining how many amazing discoveries awaited him in this life, literally, starting an hour later, when his husband returned and was surprised to find that his the wife did not cook dinner or take their child from the kindergarten.
