"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the show of the magnificient Magical Ray!"
A few people clapped as Ray stepped on stage - it was small town hall after all.
With a big cloud of smoke, Ray appeared in the center of stage wearing his usual black suit and cape starting to introduce himself.
I turned off the mic and grab our mismade boxes that are stacked on a small trolley with four stiff metal blades leaned next to them.
"...For our first trick we have a real classic! Everyone's seen it! Everyone knows it! The Miss-Made with my lovely assisstant, Tamara!"
This was my call and I slowly started to roll the boxes onto the center of the stage, a few shy claps coming from the audience. The bright lights of the stage were blinding me to such a degree, that I was unable to see the audience at first.
Ray, while still turned to the audience, "Let's get going, right?" He turned around to me, "Mind to get into that lovely set of boxed, Tamara?" Smiling widely for everyone to see, I nodded and stepped into the velvet-lined boxes. The door closed in front me and darkness engulfed me. The excitement sent goosebumps all over my body.
I know I said I've done this hundreds of times before, still it's always exciting.
Ray started to show off the metal blades to the audience. His words flew by while I was trying to calm down from my own excitement. Two quick knocks came from the box as he presented the blades to be fully metal and not having some kind of hidden latch. This was my sign to keep completely still and prepare for what is to come.
Taking a deep breath I crossed my arms in front of my chest so that Ray won't cut through my wrists, that would be a problem, if my hands were to fly around in these boxes. I felt the boxes shake from the bottom and suddenly cold metal rushed through my knees. My breathing sped up in pace, as I knew where the next blade was about to come in.
The boxes started to shake at hip-height and soon I felt the blade enter my body just above my hips. Here Ray likes to make the joke of having trouble to cut through me and getting stuck half inside me before finally pushing through.
After some shaking and another push, the rounded edges of the blade finally cut through my waist. I don't know how it works or how he does it, I'm just glad it doesn't hurt at all.
Ray entered the blade into the headbox and before I could even react, the cold metal blade rushed through my neck just above my throat and I let out a small moan in surprise.
In a flash of light the doors of the mismade opened showing to the audience that I was indeed cut into four pieces now. Ray closed the doors and darkness covers me again, the boxes started to move.
After hundreds of times, it still feels so surreal - maybe because it is.
Obviously I couldn't see how Ray was rearranging me, but judging by the movement I felt my feet were left on the bottom followed by my head, my hips and my torso on the top. As Ray opened the door the people stared. "Oh my god that looks so real" "Don't worry, it's just a trick."
Laughing internally I just smiled and looked up, pretending to be ashamed that my hips we just above me.
Darkness ensued again and once again the boxes were rearranged.
Ray opened the door another time, this time my head ended up above my hips and feet, my torso in the highest of the boxes - Close but not quite, Ray. I poked my tongue out at the audience.
There we go and the door closes once again.
For the last turn Ray just switched around my torso with my head and he tapped the box twice. This was the call for me to prepare for the undoing. At first he pulled the top most blace, my head almost falling over and my head promptly fused back onto my body. I immediatly checked my neck wether everything was fine.
Suddenly I fell a small bit as Ray pulled out the second blade and my upper half met with my waist.
Lastly my legs got reconnected and Ray opened the door.
The bright light of the stage lights blinded me as I stepped out again and made that usual "Tada!" pose followed by a turn-around to show everyone I'm in one piece again.
Kinda disheartening to be honest with you...
