Ever wondered about the life of a magician's assistant? I'm here to tell you about that. First of all, despite what everyone says, magic is real and I get a taste of it every other day. Unfortunately I'm not able to do any of it myself, only the magical Ray can do that - as far as I know.

"Tamara are you listening?", I shook my head to snap back into reality. "Sorry, Ray, I've been disctracted".
Ray laughed, "You were completely spaced out without me even hypnotizing you! Not that I ever needed to do that to you."

Ray used to hypnotize volunteers so they don't realise what's actually happening to them during our show. I obviously don't need it after been through his "tricks" for more times than I can count.

"Tamara! Hey! Wake up!", suddenly I found my head on one of his hands with his other hand holding a short sword. He decapitated me without me even realising it. Not unusual for him. "Concentrate or I will take you feet with me this night!" "Sorry, Ray, I'm thinking about tonights' performance.", I said to him. He raised me to his face level, "That what I wanted to talk to you about, we're gonna start with the mismade and keep the swap order in mind. First I'm going to put your hips on top and you look up with a little shame on your face and then..."

Ah the mismade, every stage magician knows how it's done, right?

"... you got that?" I snapped back into reality, "Sure, Ray." I started smiling and took my head back from him.  "After that comes the steamroller with a twist.", he winked at me, "how about a little origiami?"
My eyes widened in surprise, "Uhm. Okay? Not that I could say no."
"After that you'll get a little break while restoring and I will do a few little tricks myself and..."

Right, he taught me how to restore myself of course in case something goes wrong.
As Ray talked, I put my head back onto my body where it simply fused back on as if nothing happened.

"... and the guillotine will be the finale for you. I know that you love that."
I started to laugh, "Yeah, seeing the crowd be worried and scared really makes it hard for me to keep up with the play through all of this."

Ray always told me: "The art of being a real magician on stage is to make the audience believe it was just a trick."
Eleborate setups that leave room to imagination to the people is crucial, so people will think and eventually "find out" that it's a trick.
"But why not show them the reality?" you may ask. Ray told me: "Magic has always been a rarity." Something maybe only hundreds throughout human's history have been born with. "You imagine if I showed the reality. People would freak out, be afraid and you know what fear leads to: Hate."
Basically magic shows proved to be an easy way for true magicians to earn money and do what they love. And covering it up as a "show" was a safety measure.

The show would start in half an hour.
