The alarm clock rings and wakes up Lily from her sleep.
She holds her neck as she sits up. "Jeez, my neck pain is going to kill me someday."
Still nude, she stood up to make breakfast, she was living alone, so being naked around wasn't much of an issue.
Lily placed a chair in front of the kitchen shelf. "I probably shouldn't have chosen such a big shelf." Her long black hair was tickling her shoulders, as she tried to reach for the plates.
"Note to myself - Find another place for the plates."
She was holding her neck, as she carried them to the table.
Lily prepares her breakfast and dresses up as it was cooking. Scarmbled eggs, fresh orange juice and some toast, but the thoughts on her hurting neck, just don't get off of her mind.
"Neck, now listen, I've got to work, so stop hurting please?" Of course it doesn't hear her.
Lily works at "WLH chemistry" a company specialised in make-up products and she works in the part of solution testing and solution composing.
They've been working on a solution in order to improve the allover acceptence of their products, because some customers reported allergic reactions to their products.
She arrivs at the lab, already wearing her long, white lab coat as her co-worker comes up from behind. "Lily, I'm sorry, but I have to leave you along today. Family Issues."
Lily is a bit saddened about, but doesn't want him to notice. "It's okay, James. We aren't too far away from the solution to our problem, right?"
Jim nodded. "Yeah, Xo-2 is nearly done, but a bit too strong, it's still attacking skin, as you know."
"Yes, I remember." She looks at the little mark left by Xo-2 on her left hand.
Jim looks at his clock and states: "I have to get going, or I'll be too late."
He waves and then turns around to leave.
Lily tries to concentrate on Xo-2, tries to fix the problem but couldn't stop to think of Jim.
He was a lovely man. Tall, well-built and always nice, but hard when he needed to... She has a crush on him.
While dreaming about him, she drops her pipette, which awakes her from her daydreaming.
"Damn, I should be working on Xo-2!" She bows down to pick up the pipette and when going up, she hit her head against the table, streching her neck a way she doesn't like to.
A lot of colours start dazzling in front of her eyes. "Ouuu..." Lily grabs for her bottle, to drink some water and drinks but spits directly after the first two gulps.
"Ewwww..." Suddenly she realises, what she's been drinking. It was the Xo-2.
Only a few seconds later, she feels really sick, losing her senses and drops to the ground.
Lost of her consciousness the Xo-2 is doing its work.
A few hours go into the day, as Lily starts to come back to her senses again.
She slowly opens her eyes. "What just happened?" She thinks to herself. "My neck pain, it's gone!" Her eyes widens as she realises that. Still Lily feels dizzy and tries to get up slowly.
She sits up, but appearantly her head doesn't move. She starts getting confused and in disbelief reached up to her shoulders to find no head there, not even a neck left. Just, flat, skin.
Lily tries to stand up, her head still doesn't move and for some reason, she is calm, she doesn't realise what happened to her.
As she walks around she sees her headless body almost kicking into her head.
She bows done to pick herself up only to see her empty shoulders.
Like in a trance, she turns her head around and tries to set it on her shoulders, just to feel her shoulders touch the base of her jaw and her head rolls off.
Holding her head in hands, she turns to a mirror. "Did this really just happen? Is my neck really... gone?"
Still in trance, she managed to get the rest of the day off and drove home, where she directly went to bed, not even starting to think about what just happened and what will come.
