(A follow on from the Spikes)
The applause from the Spike Escape is still deafening when I raise a single, black-gloved hand. Instantly, the theater plunges into absolute, pin-drop silence. I thrive in this heavy, expectant space between their fear and their awe—but the true performance is only just beginning, and it requires my favorite source of power.
Milly struts onto the stage, the warm wash of the spotlight catching the metallic sheen of her plum-colored leotard and the heavy, black leather of her collar. She doesn't just walk; she presents herself, moving with a fluid, feline grace. To the audience, she is simply the glamorous assistant. To me, she is a living battery of raw, submissive potential, humming with a delicious, eager tension that I can feel from ten feet away.
Two identical, sleek black-and-chrome cabinets are wheeled to the center of the stage. Unlike traditional sawing boxes, the entire midsection of each cabinet is made of crystal-clear acrylic. There is nowhere to hide.
I guide Milly to the first cabinet. As I lock the heavy iron cuffs around her wrists and ankles, securing her inside, our eyes meet. Her shoulders drop and her chin tilts up, melting the rigid tension in her muscles into a fluid, heavy trust. She surrenders her physical autonomy to me completely. It hits me like a tangible wave—a rush of golden, chaotic energy that makes the violet streaks in my dark hair flare brightly under the stage lights.
I step into the second cabinet alongside hers. With a flick of my wrist and a pulse of that siphoned energy, the cuffs in my own box snap shut around my limbs, locking me in just as securely. We are perfectly mirrored.
Bound. Helpless.
Or so it appears.
There are no stagehands to push the saws. I don't need them. Drawing deeply from the well of Milly’s absolute trust, I focus my mind. The air above us warps, the sudden, sharp scent of ozone cutting through the smell of stage makeup and nervous sweat. Two massive, spectral buzzsaws materialize out of thin air, forged from pure, glowing violet magic. They spin with a terrifying, high-pitched whine that vibrates right into the teeth of everyone in the front row.
With a silent command, I drop the blades.
They slice downward simultaneously, passing effortlessly through the clear acrylic, through my black leotard, through Milly's plum one, and straight through our waists. There is no blood, no gore—only a blinding flash of searing violet light as my magic momentarily unweaves the physical reality of our bodies. Milly gasps, a sound of pure, overwhelmed sensation as the magic rushes through her, and she instinctively feeds that surging energy right back to me.
The mechanisms beneath the cabinets engage, and the tables smoothly pull apart. The audience shrieks as the physical space between my torso and my legs widens to three feet. Beside me, Milly is similarly divided. I tilt my head back against the velvet lining of my box, flashing a predatory smirk at the hushed crowd. I channel a tiny fraction of power down our severed connection, and my disconnected legs, encased in fishnets and black heels, playfully cross themselves on the other side of the stage. Milly laughs, a bright, genuine sound, as her own purple-booted toes wiggle in tandem.
The trick is spectacle, but the art is in the healing. This is where my forensic precision truly shines—the absolute, flawless reconciliation of the ledger.
I pull the cabinets back together with a sharp, magnetic gesture. The halves meet with a heavy clack. I flood the severed spaces with a surge of binding magic. The violet light flares one final time, a sudden rush of heat stitching muscle, bone, and fabric back together on a subatomic level. The cuffs spring open. Milly and I step out of our respective cabinets simultaneously, entirely whole, completely unblemished, and radiating power. We take a swift bow as the crowd erupts.
But the books are not yet closed for the evening.
As the acrylic cabinets are whisked away into the wings, two terrified volunteers from the front row are guided onstage alongside a towering, segmented wooden apparatus. Milly and I step into our respective sides of the towering prop, allowing the volunteers to lock the heavy wooden stocks around our necks, waists, and ankles. I give the volunteers a wicked smile, and with a sharp pulse of magic, I set the apparatus spinning.
The wooden tiers of the cabinet groan as the spin finally begins to lose its momentum. I raise a single, commanding hand, and the entire structure shudders to an immediate, unnatural halt.
We land facing the audience in a state of glorious, anatomical anarchy. My head sits atop Milly's plum-clad torso, which connects seamlessly to my fishnet-wrapped legs. On the other side, Milly's freckled face grins from above my black-and-blue bodice, supported by her bare, auburn-haired legs.
The crowd is in a state of absolute, breathless shock. The energy in the room is thick, heavy, and ripe for the taking.
"A fascinating configuration," I project to the hushed theatre, my voice echoing off the high ceilings. "But as any good accountant will tell you, a ledger left unbalanced is a dangerous thing. Reality, much like a balance sheet, demands perfect reconciliation."
I close my eyes for a fraction of a second and focus inward, finding the familiar, golden hum of Milly's presence in my mind. Even separated into three distinct blocks of wood and steel, her surrender is absolute. She offers me the raw, pulsing energy of her trust, and I draw it in deeply. The faint, electric violet streaks at the roots of my hair blaze to life, casting a bright, ethereal glow over the mismatched segments of our bodies.
"Gentlemen," I say, opening my glowing violet eyes and nodding to the volunteers. "Remove the steel."
With trembling hands, they grip the handles of the broad metal plates separating the wooden boxes and pull. The steel slides out with a sharp shhhk, leaving only the crackling violet magic holding our segmented sections in stasis.
I don't wait for them to push the boxes back into alignment. With a sharp, imperious twist of my wrists, I manipulate the physical space around us. The wooden tiers spin rapidly, this time driven entirely by my will.
Clack. Milly's torso snaps into place beneath her own head. Clack. My own black-and-blue bodice realigns beneath my chin. Clack. Clack. The bottom sections whip around, locking my fishnets to my torso and Milly's bare legs to hers.
"Close the books," I whisper.
I release the pent-up, siphoned energy in a single, concentrated burst. A blinding flash of violet light erupts from the seams between the boxes. It is the magic of flawless restoration. The faint hum of the magic fades, leaving only the mundane creak of the wood. With a synchronized click, the heavy latches of the pillories and stocks spring open.
The front panels of the cabinet fall away. Milly and I step out simultaneously, side-by-side, moving with the fluid grace of predators. I am completely, flawlessly whole. Beside me, Milly is equally perfect. There is not a single mark, not a frayed thread, not a hair out of place.
We walk to the edge of the stage, the warm golden spotlights washing over us, and take a deep, synchronized bow.
The audience erupts into a roaring, sustained ovation that shakes the very dust from the rafters. It is a tsunami of adulation, a massive influx of raw power that washes over me, leaving me vibrating with creative potential.
The heavy velvet curtains sweep closed behind us, cutting off the deafening roar of the crowd. The sudden, muffled quiet of the backstage corridor is a stark contrast, but the energy hasn't dissipated. If anything, it’s condensed.
I am practically vibrating. The sheer volume of awe, fear, and adoration we just siphoned from that auditorium is a heavy, intoxicating weight in my blood. The violet streaks at the roots of my hair are glowing so brightly they cast long, jagged shadows against the brick walls. Milly walks beside me, her bare feet padding softly on the concrete. She is flushed, her breathing shallow, her eyes dark and completely blown wide. She isn't just riding the high of the performance; she is feeling the massive, churning reservoir of magical capital I'm currently holding.
We reach our dressing room. I push the door open, pull her inside, and kick it shut, locking the deadbolt with a sharp clack.
The transition from public spectacle to private sanctuary is instantaneous. The blinding vanity lights catch the metallic sheen of her plum leotard and the glowing blue veins woven into my black one.
"You were flawless," I murmur, my voice dropping an octave, heavy with the Hanavari persona but edged with Hannah’s genuine affection.
I don't give her a chance to answer. I step into her space, crowding her back against the edge of the makeup counter. My hands, still crackling with faint violet sparks, grip her waist. The ambient magic in the room is so dense that as I press against her, several makeup brushes and a tube of lipstick slowly levitate off the counter, suspended in our localized, chaotic gravitational field.
Milly lets out a soft, helpless sound, her hands coming up to grip the lapels of my leotard. That sound—that pure, unadulterated surrender—is the spark hitting the powder keg.
I crash my lips down onto hers. It isn't a gentle kiss; it’s a collision, a deliberate, aggressive transfer of power. I taste the salt of her sweat and the sharp, metallic tang of the ozone that clings to us both. I need to discharge this excess capital before it burns me out. As my tongue sweeps into her mouth, I channel the overwhelming surge of siphoned audience energy directly down the bond between us.
The dressing room reacts violently. The mirrors frost over with intricate, glowing violet crystalline fractal patterns. The lightbulbs around the vanity flare to blinding intensity before shattering simultaneously, plunging us into darkness illuminated only by the crackling aura of our combined magic and the glowing blue accents of my suit.
Milly arches against me, whimpering into my mouth as the raw, creative force washes through her. She is the perfect conduit, grounding my chaotic power with her absolute submission.
I break the kiss, both of us gasping for air in the suddenly chilled, dark room. I reach up, my fingers trailing down her jawline to the heavy black leather collar around her neck.
"The audience provides volume, my pet," I whisper, my thumb stroking her pulse point. "But it's so... unrefined. A chaotic gross income."
With a thought and a tiny expenditure of my remaining magic, the heavy buckle of her collar pops open. It falls away, landing softly on the carpet. I trace the faint red line it leaves behind on her skin.
"Your energy, however," I continue, my lips trailing down her neck, feeling her shiver as I press a searing, magical kiss against her collarbone. "Your surrender... that is pure, high-yield asset class. It’s time we did a little private auditing."
The remaining floating objects drop to the counter with a clatter as I lift her effortlessly by the thighs, sitting her on the edge of the vanity. She wraps her bare legs around my waist, pulling me flush against her, entirely ready for the next transaction.
