The aftermath from the previous escape

Nightshade belongs to @Nightshade-QOV

The groan of the hydraulics is a deep, bone-shaking sound, a promise of absolute finality. The immense metal plate above me descends, not with the swiftness of a blade, but with the slow, certain pressure of a tectonic plate. This is Nightshade's philosophy made manifest: a force so overwhelming that it crushes all possibility of resistance.

I can feel her magic crackling in the chains that bind me. It's wild, chaotic, and powerful, like holding a live wire. It writhes against my skin, an energy with no discipline, no direction other than "constrain."

She's right. There are no locks to pick. There is no motor to short-circuit. She believes she has created a perfect trap.

Her mistake is thinking that her chaos is a weapon. She doesn't realize it's also the trap's most profound flaw.

My eyes close. My own power, the calm, violet aura of pure order and control, rises to meet the chaos. But it does not fight it. Fighting chaos with order is a battle of attrition. A waste of energy. Instead, I open a dialogue with it.

Nightshade's magic is a scream. I am listening for the words within it.

The chaotic energy she infused into the chains wants only one thing: release. To express its nature. She has given it the simple, crude task of holding me down. I will offer it a far more satisfying purpose.

My magic doesn't suppress her chaos. It envelops it, giving it shape and direction. I become a conduit, a translator. I take the raw, screaming energy humming in the chains and present it with a new target, a far more appealing vessel for its destructive nature than my own body. I present it with the machine itself.

You are a storm, I whisper to the chaos in the language of pure magic. Why settle for rattling a cage when you can level the entire fortress?

The effect is instantaneous and catastrophic.

The wild, untamed energy, now given a purpose and a path, surges from the chains and back into the Crusher's core systems. The hydraulic fluid in the pistons flash-boils, turning to explosive gas. The reinforced steel support columns, designed to withstand immense, steady pressure, are suddenly subjected to a reality-warping force that twists them like soft clay. The gears seize and shatter, their teeth shearing off in showers of sparks.

The descending plate stops, shudders violently, and then, with a final, deafening shriek of tearing metal, the entire upper mechanism of the Crusher collapses in on itself, a broken, steaming wreck.

The pressure is gone.

The chaotic energy in the chains, its purpose fulfilled, dissipates into nothing. They are now just heavy, inert lengths of metal. With a focused thought, I persuade the simple pin-tumbler locks on the cuffs to open.

I sit up amidst the ruins of Nightshade's machine, swinging my legs off the side of the now-motionless plate. I look directly at her, her confident smirk having been replaced by an expression of pure, dumbfounded shock.

"You gave your power a command, Nightshade," I say, my voice cutting through the hiss of escaping steam. "You told it to 'crush.'" I stand, brushing a piece of metal dust from my shoulder. "You simply failed to specify what."
