Alistair Graves stood on the periphery of the crumbling library, his impeccably tailored suit a stark contrast to the arcane chaos Nightshade had wrought. He didn't raise his voice; it was a cool, effortless baritone that cut through the dust and splintered wood. His eyes, the color of a winter sky, were locked on her—not with aggression, but with a profound, almost weary, sense of observation.

“My dear Nightshade,” he began, a small, polite smile playing on his lips. “I heard on the grapevine—a rather delightful vintage, I might add—that you’ve recently come into a bit of a… gift. From a goddess, no less. Nyx. A formidable entity. Though, if I'm being frank, a rather poor gift-giver. But then, who am I to judge? I once gave a certain someone a brand new buzzsaw after a rather unfortunate incident, and even she took it with a smile.”

He took a slow, deliberate step forward, his gaze never leaving her. “I noticed the rather potent energy signatures you’ve been leaving in your wake. A bit messy, if I'm being honest. A little… vulgar. You see, reality has an immune system. It has no quarrel with intruders from other planes, the demons and devils who pop in for a visit; those are known variables, and they are dealt with. But magic that fundamentally defies the world as it should be—that changes a man into an inanimate figurine or bends gravity for a rooftop escape—that, my dear, is an abomination in the eyes of a fragile reality. You are a living Paradox, and the cosmos does not appreciate defiance.”

Alistair's smile tightened slightly, and his voice dropped to a low, intimate murmur. He reached into his coat and produced a slim, leather-bound volume, worn with age. He held it out to her. "This is a copy of the Book of Solomon. A bit of light reading for a young woman of your... talents. The theories within are fascinating, a kind of applied mathematics for the truly ambitious. It shows how complex sigils and equations can be used to bind the impossible. But it has an amusing flaw. The more you use it, the louder your signal becomes. You’re shouting into the cosmic void, a beacon attracting all manner of... things. From the largest of archfiends to the most minuscule of brain moles, all are drawn to the scent of a new source of power. My old friends at the Laundry call it a 'transdimensional summoning,' but I prefer to think of it as attracting uninvited houseguests who want to devour your soul."

He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a theatrical whisper. “But the real trick, the funniest bit of all, is what they call ‘Quiet.’ A metaphysical psychosis. It begins with a slow disconnection from reality, a denial of the world for what it is. The world’s consensus, its simple, boring reality, is at war with your new gift. The more you use it, the more you will feel like you don't truly belong. And that is not just an emotion, my dear. That is a symptom. It is your mind beginning to retreat into a private, self-made world, a hallucination that will only ever grow stronger until reality bends and breaks around you. It’s a rather cruel joke, isn't it? The more powerful you become, the more insane you are.”

Alistair’s smile faded completely, his gaze turning cold, emotionless, like a predator assessing prey. "So, I offer this small piece of counsel. My own body is a testament to the price. The Inner Darkness I carry is a symbiotic, corrupting force that has been the source of my magic for centuries, and it leaves its own physical strain on the body and mind. It's a rather constant, low-grade battle. You’ve had a taste of my methods, you and I. We've had our little demonstration of the 'Art of Reclassification' —I rather enjoyed watching you scream as I sawed you in half. But what you didn't see was the price of that magic. It's a wound that never truly heals, a form of spiritual consumption."

He held her gaze, the intensity of his stillness a tangible force. "Know that when the backlash comes—and it will come—when the magic fades and you are a broken, discarded thing, I will be here. I am an old lawyer, after all, and I have a profound understanding of the final clauses of these eternal contracts. And the Crimson Weave always has room for a little more power to consume."

"But till then Nightshade, let me and other colleagues know if you need any further advice, I'm sure Hanavari will be glad to support you."
