The moment they stepped into the lockup, something felt different. The air was heavy, almost charged with something unseen. Dust still clung to the old props and cabinets, but the space itself… it felt bigger, or maybe just deeper.

Daniel paused just past the threshold, gripping the book under his arm, eyes scanning the room like he was expecting something to move on its own. Elizabeth was the first to take a deep breath, stretching her arms above her head.

"God, I’ve been waiting for this all week," she said, her voice carrying an excitement that felt almost electric.

Veronica, however, was already stepping forward, her heels clicking softly against the concrete floor. "Same," she murmured, though she didn’t even glance at Elizabeth. Her gaze was fixed—locked—on the wardrobe. Or rather, what was inside it.

She didn’t need to say anything; Daniel and Elizabeth already knew what she was after.

"You’re going straight for it, huh?" Daniel mused, trying to keep his tone casual, but there was something in the way Veronica moved—purposeful, almost desperate—that made him uneasy.

She barely spared him a glance. "Obviously."

The doors of the wardrobe creaked as she pulled them open, the mix of costumes inside still as bizarre and enticing as ever. But Veronica’s hands moved without hesitation, brushing past corsets, sequined dresses, and elaborate steampunk outfits. And then—there it was.

The catsuit.

She pulled it free, running her fingers over the sleek, black material, the fishnet stockings still neatly folded beside it. The moment she touched it, that shiver ran through her again—starting at her fingertips and cascading through her spine. It was almost like… the suit was excited too.

"I’m putting this back on," she declared, more to herself than anyone else. "And then I want to see what else this thing can do."

She didn’t even wait for a response. She turned on her heel and strode toward one of the old dressing screens, already unzipping the bodysuit she had worn to the lockup.

Daniel shot Elizabeth a look, but she just smirked. "She’s obsessed."

"I noticed," Daniel muttered, rubbing his temple.

While Veronica vanished behind the screen, Elizabeth finally turned her attention to the wardrobe. She had thought about this all week—what it felt like to have Veronica’s legs, how effortless it had been to move like her, to balance in heels like she had been born in them.

And now, she wanted more.

She skimmed through the outfits, her fingers dancing over leather, silk, and strange metallic fabrics.

But then she paused.

A bodysuit. Similar in style to Veronica’s, but with sleek red glowing seams tracing along the arms, down the torso, and wrapping around the legs. It pulsed faintly, like embers in a fire.

She pulled it free, holding it up against herself. "This one," she decided aloud.

Daniel raised a brow. "Going for the matching look, huh?"

Elizabeth grinned. "Hey, if she’s the Cat Burglar, I’ll be her partner in crime."

She draped the bodysuit over her arm and turned to find a place to change. But before she left, she threw a glance back at Daniel.

"What about you? Gonna do some research, or are you finally going to try something yourself?"

Daniel let out a slow breath. He hadn’t even thought about trying on a costume—not when there were so many unanswered questions about the lockup itself.

Something was off about this place. The more they performed, the more it felt like the lockup was… responding to them.

He tightened his grip on the book, flipping to the section he had marked. "I need to figure out how big this place actually is."

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "It’s a storage unit, Daniel. It’s only so big."

Daniel shook his head. "That’s the thing. I measured last time. It’s bigger on the inside than it should be." He gestured around. "And I think it’s growing."

Elizabeth blinked. "…Okay, that’s weird."

"Exactly." Daniel looked around, then exhaled. "You two do your thing. I’m going to see if this book has any explanation for what’s happening to this place."

Elizabeth gave a mock salute before heading toward the dressing screen. "Good luck with that. We’ll be over here turning into badass thieves."

Daniel sighed as both women disappeared behind their screens. He opened the book again, flipping through the aged pages. He had a sinking feeling that the deeper they went into these illusions, the harder it would be to get out.

And yet… a part of him was just as fascinated as they were.

As the three of them went about their separate tasks—Veronica slipping back into her catsuit, Elizabeth pulling on her glowing bodysuit, and Daniel scouring the book—none of them noticed the faint hum that had started to fill the air.

The lockup wasn’t just reacting anymore.

It was anticipating.
