As the water surged higher, Veronica felt an unfamiliar flexibility spreading through her limbs. Her wrists, once tightly bound, now had just enough give for her to slip a hand free. The sensation was strange—like her body was stretching ever so slightly, adapting to the restraints rather than resisting them.

Elizabeth gasped as she saw Veronica’s foot slide effortlessly out of the locked ankle cuffs. “Daniel, are you seeing this?”

Daniel, still scanning the book, nodded slowly. “Yeah… It says the trick is designed to make the assistant ‘adapt’ to the escape. It’s like… the suit is helping her.”

Veronica twisted her arms, feeling the slick material of her catsuit aiding her movements. She was more flexible than before, her joints looser, more agile. As the water rose past her shoulders, she took a deep breath and ducked beneath the surface.

She could feel the final bindings slipping away, her elongated limbs allowing her to manoeuvre like never before. With one last push, she wriggled her way free from the last restraint just as the tank completely filled.

A moment of silence.

Then—WHOOSH!

With a sudden rush, Veronica burst out of the water, flipping gracefully over the top of the tank as if she had performed the move a hundred times before. She landed lightly on her feet, water cascading off her sleek catsuit, and flicked her damp hair back with a smirk.

Elizabeth blinked. “Okay… that was way too smooth.”

Daniel exhaled, shaking his head. “I think… the suit has permanently improved her escape skills.”

Veronica flexed her fingers, her smirk widening. “I think… I like this.”

Veronica hesitated as she ran her hands over the catsuit one last time. The way it moved with her, the way it felt—it was unlike anything she had ever worn. She wanted to keep it, to take it home and see if the sensations would linger outside the lockup.

Elizabeth noticed her hesitation and smirked. “Thinking about sneaking it out, Cat Burglar?”

Veronica rolled her eyes but didn’t deny it. Instead, she looked over at Daniel. “So… what’s the rule on, uh, borrowing?”

Daniel glanced at the book, flipping through a few pages. “It doesn’t say anything about taking the outfits out of here… but it also doesn’t say we should.” He closed the book and met Veronica’s gaze. “If it’s anything like the tricks, the magic might not work the same outside. Or worse, it could do something we don’t expect.”

Veronica sighed, reluctantly peeling the suit off. The moment she was free from it, she already missed the way it hugged her body, the way it made her move. She folded it neatly, setting it back in the wardrobe with one last longing glance.

“Fine,” she muttered. “But next time, it’s mine.”

Elizabeth chuckled, tossing her coat on. “I dunno… I might want to try it next.”

Veronica shot her a glare, but Daniel was already locking up. “Come on, let’s get out of here. We’ll be back soon enough.”

As they stepped out of the lockup, Veronica cast one last glance at the wardrobe before the door shut behind them.

She’d be back. And so would the Cat.

During the next week, the three of them went back to their regular routines, but the experiences in the lockup lingered in their minds in different ways.

Veronica’s Week: The Lingering Effect of the Catsuit

From the moment she left the lockup, Veronica couldn’t stop thinking about the catsuit. The way it fit her perfectly, the way it moved with her, the way she felt effortlessly graceful in it. It was just a piece of clothing—or at least, it should have been—but it stayed with her in a way that no outfit ever had before.

At work, she went through the motions. Calls, collections, spreadsheets—it was all the same as ever. But every so often, her fingers would run absentmindedly along her wrist, as if feeling for the manacles that had been there just days before. She told herself she was being ridiculous, but her body remembered.

By midweek, she found herself browsing online stores, searching for something similar to the catsuit. But nothing seemed quite right. The material was always off, too stiff or too loose. The designs were either too flashy or too simple. Nothing had that feeling.

That’s when she decided to check out some actual stores.

The Shopping Trips

On Wednesday evening, she went to a boutique that specialized in high-end dancewear and performance outfits. She pretended she was looking for something for a themed party—just an excuse, really—but none of the bodysuits had the same sleek, second-skin quality as the one from the lockup. She tried on a few, but they either bunched up in the wrong places or didn’t have the flexibility she was hoping for.

On Thursday, she went to a cosplay store, hoping she might find something closer to what she was looking for. The catsuits there were more stylized—some inspired by superheroes, others by sci-fi movies—but they still didn’t feel right. She tried on a black one with a glossy finish, but it was too rigid, too artificial. She sighed, pulling at the seams as she looked at herself in the mirror. Nope. Not the same.

By Friday, she was getting frustrated. It was ridiculous—obsessing over a bodysuit of all things—but she couldn’t let it go. She decided to check one last place: a high-end fetishwear store she had never imagined she’d step foot in before.

The Unexpected Store Visit

Veronica hesitated outside the store for a good five minutes before finally stepping in. The place was dimly lit but sleek, with mannequins posed in elaborate outfits. She had never seen so much leather and latex in one place before.

A salesperson—a tall woman in a corset and heeled boots—smiled at her. “Looking for something special?”

“I, uh—” Veronica hesitated, then sighed. “Yeah. I tried on this, uh, costume last week, and I can’t find anything like it.”

The woman raised an eyebrow. “Describe it to me.”

As Veronica explained, the woman nodded knowingly. “You’re not looking for just a catsuit. You’re looking for one that fits like it was made for you.”

Veronica blinked. That was exactly it.

“I have a few options. Follow me.”

The woman led her to a rack in the back, where the higher-end, custom-fit bodysuits were displayed. Veronica ran her hands over them, feeling the smooth, supple material. Some were close—closer than anything else she had tried—but still, they weren’t quite it.

She ended up trying on a sleek, black latex suit that zipped up the back. It clung to her like a second skin, hugging her curves just right. It looked amazing, but when she moved, it still wasn’t quite the same.

She sighed as she turned to the salesperson. “It’s close, but… it’s not right.”

The woman smirked. “Whatever you tried on before must’ve been very special.”

Veronica left without buying anything, but the trip only confirmed what she already knew: nothing would compare to that suit.

The Lingering Thoughts

That night, Veronica lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.

She still felt the shiver from the catsuit, even though she wasn’t wearing it. And that scared her.

Because deep down, she knew that next time they went back to the lockup, she was going to put it on again.

And she wasn’t going to want to take it off.

Elizabeth’s Week: Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes—Literally

For the first day or two after their strange night at the lockup, Elizabeth tried to push it all to the back of her mind. But no matter how much she distracted herself, one thought kept returning.

She had been walking around on Veronica’s legs.

And it had felt normal.

Day One: The Morning After

The next morning, Elizabeth had woken up later than usual, her muscles feeling oddly different. When she swung her legs over the side of the bed, she hesitated before standing, half expecting to feel something off—but of course, she was back to normal. Her legs, her feet.

Still, she couldn’t shake the sensation from the night before. When they’d switched, there had been a moment—just a moment—where she had nearly lost her balance. But then… something had clicked. It had been as if her body knew what to do.

She had moved gracefully, even effortlessly, despite being in someone else’s lower half.

And the weirdest part?

It had felt kind of… exhilarating.

Day Three: The Dance Class

Elizabeth had signed up for a dance workshop weeks ago—just something casual to keep her skills sharp—but when she showed up on Tuesday night, she found herself hyper-aware of her movements.

As they warmed up, she kept catching herself in the mirror, half expecting to see Veronica’s legs moving instead of her own.

When they started working on a routine, she noticed something strange: her footwork was different. It wasn’t bad—if anything, it was smoother than usual—but the way she landed her steps, the way she balanced, felt subtly off. Or maybe not off—just… borrowed.

She hesitated for a moment, then shook the thought away and kept dancing. But as the class went on, she kept catching herself adjusting in ways she hadn’t before.

Was it all in her head? Or had she really picked up something from Veronica?

Day Five: The Experiment

By Thursday, she was too curious to let it go.

She dug out an old pair of Veronica’s heels that she had borrowed ages ago—ones that Veronica had never worn because she “hated heels.” Elizabeth put them on, stood up, and took a few cautious steps.

Her first thought was These still don’t fit right.

Her second thought was Why am I walking like this?

Because she wasn’t walking like herself. She was moving like Veronica had moved when she first tried on the catsuit. Graceful. Smooth. Balanced.

Elizabeth let out a slow breath.

Had their time in the lockup changed her physically? Or had she just… adapted?

She spent the next twenty minutes walking back and forth across her apartment, testing it. If she focused on it, she could almost feel the memory of Veronica’s legs guiding her.

That was weird. Right?

Day Six: The Late-Night Thoughts

By Friday, Elizabeth had almost convinced herself that she was overthinking it.

But then, as she was brushing her teeth that night, she found herself turning her ankle in the mirror—just slightly—admiring the movement.

And she realized something else.

She had enjoyed being switched.

It had been strange at first, sure—but after the initial awkwardness, it had felt kind of… exciting?

Like slipping into a new role in a performance. Only this time, it hadn’t been an act.

This time, it had been real.

And now, she was wondering:

If switching legs had felt that natural…

What would happen if she tried something else?
