As the hour approached, the villagers gathered outside the chapel. The air was thick with anticipation, and the usual chatter was replaced by a serious tone. Grimbold and the bar maids organized the crowd, ensuring everyone had a place to stand or sit. The rangers, including the orc and the wizard, stood at the front, adding a sense of authority and urgency.

Aurik, dressed in his formal robes of justice, stepped forward to address the villagers. "Good evening, everyone. My name is Aurik Fielding, and I am here to manage the investigation into the recent disappearance of several coaches on the road between Ithrill and Aradia. One of these coaches belonged to the Crimson Bank, and it is crucial that we find the bandits responsible and recover the stolen goods."

The villagers listened intently, their faces a mix of concern and curiosity. Aurik continued, "We need your help to gather information about any unusual activities or sightings in the past few days. If you have seen anything out of the ordinary, please come forward and share your information."

A farmer, a middle-aged man with a weathered face and strong hands, stepped forward. "Sir, what can we do to help? We want to ensure our village is safe."

Aurik nodded. "Your cooperation is invaluable. We need someone to act as the constable of the town until the investigation is complete. Who among you is willing to take on this responsibility?"

There was a moment of hesitation, but the farmer stepped forward. "I will do it, sir. My name is Thorne. I will do my best to keep the village safe and assist in any way I can."

Aurik smiled, extending his hand to Thorne. "Thank you, Thorne. Your leadership will be crucial. The rangers will search the surrounding area, including the forests and hills. We will meet back here at dusk to report our findings."

The rangers nodded in agreement, and the orc and the wizard began to organize their teams. The villagers dispersed to their homes or to help with the preparations.

Before the rangers and half the village rode out, Aurik turned to the statue of Kreditos. "Kreditos, god of law, trade, and contracts, we seek your guidance and protection. Bless our efforts and guide us to the truth. May justice be served."

Some of the rangers mounted their horses and set off into the evening, while the others took charge of village groups to start the search. Victoria, feeling a mix of hope and resolve, turned to Thorne. "I'll do what I can to help. If I notice anything unusual, I'll let you know."

Thorne nodded. "Thank you, Victoria. Every bit of help counts. Let's keep our eyes and ears open."

With that, the villagers who remained returned to their evening routines. Victoria headed back to the tavern, now empty, so Grimbold got Victoria and the other bar maids to prepare food and drink for when the rangers and villagers returned later in the evening.

The kitchen was a hive of activity, Elara, Mira, and Lila worked together to prepare a variety of dishes and drinks. Victoria helped where she could, feeling a sense of camaraderie and purpose.

Grimbold, overseeing the preparations, nodded approvingly. "Good work, everyone. We need to make sure the rangers and villagers have plenty of food and drink to keep them going."

After a few hours, the food and drink were ready. Grimbold and the bar maids set up a large table in the main room of the tavern, ensuring everything was in place for when the search party returned.

With the preparations complete, Victoria decided to go home to her cottage. She needed to rest and prepare for the investigation. As she walked through the quiet village, the evening air was cool and peaceful.

Victoria reached her cottage and stepped inside. She went to the locked cupboard where she kept her father's bow and sword. She opened the cupboard, her fingers brushing against the familiar, well-worn weapons. She took them out, feeling a sense of connection to her father and the legacy he had left behind.

Victoria placed the bow and sword on her bed and then changed into her nightgown. She lay down, the weight of the day's events settling over her. She felt a mix of excitement, determination, and responsibility. The investigation was just beginning, and she was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

As she drifted off to sleep, Victoria's thoughts were filled with the images of the rangers, the mysterious book, and the enigmatic statue of Luna. She knew that the coming days would be crucial, and she was more determined than ever to uncover the truth.

Victoria drifted off to sleep, her mind filled with the images of the rangers, the mysterious book, and the enigmatic statue of Luna. As she entered the realm of dreams, she found herself back in the pages of the book, standing in a clearing surrounded by her friends. A massive troll was lumbering towards them, its eyes glowing with malice.

In her dream, Victoria felt a surge of power within her. She raised her hands, and a bolt of energy formed at her fingertips. She focused her mind, channeling the energy, and released it with a shout. The bolt streaked through the air, striking the troll with a blinding flash of light. The troll roared in pain and stumbled back, giving her friends a chance to escape.

Victoria felt a sense of exhilaration and power. She realized that the magic she wielded in the book was not just a fantasy but a part of her. She could feel the connection to the magic, and it was both thrilling and terrifying. Every bolt she fired at the troll got more powerful, and she experimented with fireballs, lightning bolts, and rainbow beams to hurt the troll. The power felt good, too good, she found.

She blinked, and the scene shifted. She was back in the tavern, but the atmosphere was tense. A scumbag, a burly man with a sneer on his face, was starting a fight with an older patron. The older man, clearly outmatched, tried to defend himself, but the scumbag was relentless.

Victoria's heart raced as she watched the scene unfold. She felt a familiar surge of power within her, the same energy she had felt in her dream. She took a deep breath and whispered into the scumbag's ear, "Feel the pain."

To her surprise, the scumbag suddenly clutched his head, his face contorting in agony. He dropped to his knees, writhing in pain. The tavern fell silent, and all eyes turned to Victoria.

She felt a mix of shock and exhilaration. The magic had worked, and she had stopped the fight without lifting a finger. But as she stood there, she realized that she was enjoying the power a bit too much. The feeling of control and the ability to influence others was intoxicating. Victoria then looked at the bar, smiled, and said, "Go about your business." And the patrons did.

But then the scumbag got back up again, this time Victoria spoke into his ear, her words dripping with honey, asking him nicely to drink the pickle jar, which he did.

The bar in her dream filled with patrons, and the scumbag was alone. Victoria then started to play with the shadows, becoming one with the shadows. From the shadows came a male imposing figure, walking over to Victoria with a smile. He had a question for her, "Would you like more?"

She nodded and said yes.

And with that, she woke up. It was still dark outside, but she heard activity outside and from the window, there were lit torches and grumbling. It had been raining, and she could make out that the searches had not been successful from the swearing. She quickly got dressed, popped on her clogs due to the muddy floor, and walked over to the bar as Grimbold would probably need help with the disappointed rangers.

She first popped to the chapel to see if anyone was praying or needed help. All was quiet in the chapel, so she closed the door. As she turned to leave, Wilver Kraive, a mid-20s male human whose father Vilver had the largest cattle herd in the farmers outside the village, stepped into her path. He was wearing a breastplate with the straps too loose, a crossbow strapped to his back, and a sword in its scabbard that hadn't been pulled out in years. His hair was disheveled, and his eyes were wide with excitement and a hint of exhaustion.

"Hey Victoria," he shouted, slightly tired but excited, "Oh man, that was intense, those rangers were so intense."

"What did you do, Wilver?"

"Well, got dirty but not much else. The one ranger says this place is going to be crowded with Bounty Hunters soon though. The Rangers are going to sleep in the coach house and they are then heading off to search around Copperhead."

Victoria smiled, but she didn't have time for Wilver. "Well, that's great, Wilver, but I got to help Grimbold."

Wilver pulled on her cloak, "No way, you need to stay here for a bit, I've more to tell you, Victoria."

Victoria was now pissed off and focused her words. "Piss off, Wilver, the first bit of excitement around here and you're an Ithrillian Ranger."

And with those words, Wilver grabbed his head in pain. It was a mild rebuke she thought, but she didn't realize how much her words would sting.

She touched his head as he was on the floor clutching his forehead, and channeling a little of the power of the chapel, she slightly healed him.

"Sorry, Wilver, you've had an exciting night. Head home and tell your dad about it," Victoria cooed.

While she couldn't contain the grin on her face, Victoria felt a surge of intrigue and curiosity about the power she had just used. Wilver, still clutching his head but now standing, looked at her with a mix of confusion and gratitude. "Thanks, Victoria. I'll do that. But seriously, be careful with those rangers. They mean business."

Victoria nodded, her expression thoughtful. "I will, Wilver. Thanks for the warning. Now, go get some rest."

Wilver nodded and shuffled off, his excitement somewhat dampened but still evident in his step.

Victoria watched him leave, her mind racing with the possibilities and the power she had just discovered. She felt a mix of excitement and curiosity about the rangers and the investigation, but more importantly, about the magic she had at her fingertips and her lips.
