One of the most powerful amazons was currently preparing herself for one of the greatest hunts in not just her life, but any life out there. She was about to fight a Gorgon. Everyone knows that Gorgons are one of the most dangerous monsters out there, being able to petrify everyone they look at, but not a lot of people know about their physical statue also being cause for concern. Being as big as an ogre, and also strong as one made hunting her not just logistical issue of not looking at her face, but also challenging task in just trying to overpower her. Fortunately, or unfortunately all of this was worth the prize, Gorgons head which as also everyone knows, can be used to petrify anyone else.
While preparing for the hunt, the amazon brought a gift, an item without which she wouldn't even try to attempt this task, a collar of petrification resistance. This golden enchanted ring was said to prevent any petrification it touches, which was crucial for this hunt. Our amazon here was also not just any amazon, she was the most powerful of her clan, some saying she was daughter of Ares himself and almost rivaling great heroes like Heracles.
Once she Equipped her collar against petrification, she went on to equip her helmet, skirt, and something that could cover her huge breasts. With her round shield in left hand and gladius in right, she was ready to venture deep into the forbidden cavern that everyone stayed miles away from. On her way to the cavern, she encountered plenty of statues of people. Farmers, warriors, children, men and women, not a single kind of person was missing from the statue army, aside from maybe kings and queens. As she got closer and closer near the cave entrance, more and more statues appeared in her way, scattered across the forest among trees and shrubs.
Once she got near the entrance to the cavern, she discovered that it was not any cavern, it was part of an necropolis, build inside of a natural tunnel. Quite a surreal mix of natural and artificial stone lining out the halls of the cave with massive pillars everywhere keeping the cave stable even in case of cave in.
Finally, she stumbled on the end of the lair, a small temple completely encased by cavernous stone. This was no necropolis, it must have been temple of Hades, perhaps made by miners for good fortune, who knows, but the most important thing was that it was where the Gorgon lived. In front of the temple was large brazier, still lit up and probably kept up by the Gorgon herself.
From the entrance to the cavern it was clear where the Gorgon was, that was until our amazon found out that the Gorgon was sleeping behind the flame of the brazier with only her feet and right asscheek visible.
Getting closer to her, it became clear and quite amazing how massive she was, and how powerful her reptilian body was. Her back was muscular, her arms massive, her hands were huge decorated with dark black claws, but none of it garnered as much attention as her huge rear that could crush any statue out there into nothing but gravel.
The amazon was sure that sneaking around sleeping monster would not be difficult, given her training, she couldn't be more wrong. The little snake heads on her human head have a sight, and some of them were not as asleep as the rest of her was, meaning that while asleep, the Gorgon still was able to notice her trough sight and only pretended to sleep further.
Right as the amazon readied her sword above the Gorgons neck, planning to decapitate her with heavy stab, the Gorgon jumped at her pushing her aside without suffering from any major injury. The Amazon helmet fell of and she stumbled away trying to keep her balance and not fall down, she readied her sword for a swing, only to miss it. As she missed her shot, she immediately tried to block her sight with her shield and get ready for another attack, only for her shied to be grabbed by the Gorgon and pushed aside while the Gorgon screeched with her most horrid face and most deep gaze in order to petrify her enemy.
As the amazon gazed into the brightly glowing eyes of the Gorgon, her eyesight began to disappear. Her vision became more and more tunnely and appeared as if her eyes became filled with more and more sand until her vision completely went away. Not just sight, but also sound and smell went away as her whole head tuned into piece of rock. Her collar seemed to fail her, but it indeed did what it was supposed to, the petrification curse did not go bellow her neck where her collar guarded it, only above. Her body was still able to move and fight.
While still saving her life, everything else in this situation turned out far worse then what the worst case scenario looked like beforehand. Gorgon seeing even while sleeping, amulet not fully protecting and removing most of her senses and probably crippling her for the rest of her life, unless she loses her life here and now.
