Not Guilty
Based, loosely, on the fave “Happy in Half.”
Carlie opened the door, feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders. She’d done it, she’d really done it.
She’d represented someone she was certain was guilty of murder and got them off.
All the evidence was there, everything she saw pointed to this person, but she’d argued, counterargued, debated and cross-examined all the witnesses to the point where doubt was firmly established. Was it her fault she was so good at that? Was it her fault the prosecution hadn’t presented their case well?
There was talk of making her partner, but she wasn’t that concerned about that now as she went to her kitchen to find a bottle of beer. On second thought, the whole pack would fit.
It wasn’t long into her second bottle when she decided it wasn’t enough. The whole thing meant this person was now out, on the street, unable to be prosecuted again for this crime.
No, she needed something stronger, something to really take the edge off. As she looked around, she had to smile.
She’d only done it a couple of times before, but never with that. And it always left her feeling fantastic afterwards.
She picked up the saw, knowing what it would entail.
Although she knew it would be okay, there was still that nagging worry. What if something went wrong this time? What if she made a mistake?
The doubts cleared up as she laid down on the floor, unable to think of a better place to do this. She took another sip of beer, working it up, before she lifted her shirt to expose her waist. As the saw laid against her bare skin, she felt the prickly sensation, again amazed at this.
She took a deep breath and stroked the saw across her body. There was a brief flash of pain as she did so, knowing full well that the saw had cut into her. But the pain subsided as she felt where it penetrated her waist.
It always amazed her how, when she first learned she could do this, there was only the briefest of pain, as if trying to remind her that it was, technically, impossible. But she had magic in her ancestry and, apparently, it was in her as well.
She took a couple more strokes, taking the saw out for just a moment as she ran her finger along where she’d cut. It astounded her, feeling this gash in her body, knowing what it meant, feeling the skin separate cleanly.
She slid the saw back in, taking a couple more strokes and feeling herself smiling at that. She had no idea why she always felt so good like this, feeling the blades dividing her. A part of her assumed that it had something to do with the paradox of it, the sheer lunacy of having something slice into her in such a way that should’ve seriously injured or even killed her. The pleasure completely subsumed the initial pain.
As she reached the halfway point, she grinned big. Before, she’d cut herself in half using a butcher’s knife, both the times she’d done it. And, each time, when she got about here, something wonderful happened.
It felt so different with the saw, felt so much more alive, felt so much better. And she felt it building up, not knowing when, but she had a guess.
As soon as the saw scraped across her spine, it hit. She heard herself screaming in ecstasy, knew what was coming as she shouted out to God, slicing through her spine until, finally, she felt her body stiffen up, yelling as the orgasm came on her fully.
She finished cutting through herself, feeling the draw-down from the orgasm. She took a few deep breaths, marveling again at how her body felt, knowing the wonderful sensation emanating from her divided waist was just an afterglow.
Carlie pushed herself apart, thrilling at that as she did so. She maneuvered her upper half onto the cut area of her waist, watching as her lower half followed suit.
How it was possible, she never knew. She kept trying to figure it out, wondering, but she knew something else. The pressures were gone. She looked around, smiling as she did so, and picked up the saw again.
One more division.
It didn’t take her as long to saw through her neck before she felt totally relaxed, totally at peace. If her client tried anything again, she knew he’d be arrested and tried, maybe even thrown in jail this time.
As she mused on this, her phone rang. It took her just a moment to remember that she had it in her pocket so she reached down to her lower half and pulled it out. As she hit answer, and speaker, she had to wonder. “Carlie? Listen, the partners want you to come in, like, right now.”
It was her paralegal, panicking as usual when it came to the partners in the firm. Carlie sighed. “Okay, I’ll pull myself together.”
