The Haunted 3: The Wardrobe
Here we go again. Can you guess what’ll happen next?
Although Carlie looked all over the house for the missing saw, she couldn’t find it. Where could it have gone? What could have made it vanish like that?
The questions bugged her, but not so much as the idea that it wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t gone downstairs. Yet Nicky seemed totally unphased. Yes, she did help Carlie look, but didn’t seem as troubled by the missing saw.
But she was curious as to why Carlie was so insistent on getting it back and why Carlie had a wall filled with other cutting implements as well, implements that seemed to stay nice and shiny. “It’s because it’s all real.”
Nicky looked shocked. “Nah. You’re joshing me.”
Carlie shook her head, smiling. “Nope. My parents weren’t just world famous illusionists, they were actual, real magicians, able to use it for everything.”
Nicky went through some of the tricks she’d thought were just illusions and Carlie expertly told as to how it all came to be. Finally, Nicky hit on Carlie’s favorite. “Sawing in half? Beheading?”
Carlie couldn’t help but grin. “Want to see something cool? Choose one of the swords, any of them. Check it for sharpness then hand it to me.”
As Nicky did so, Carlie lay down on the floor, hitching up her top to expose her midriff. Nicky handed her the blade and, without any preamble, Carlie slid the sword through her waist. The feeling was intense, wonderful and over all too quick, but Carlie could still feel that she was in two. Nicky looked shocked and Carlie had to smile. “Wait a second.”
Carlie pushed down, separating her halves as Nicky had to sit. “Now for the next bit of fun.”
Without any warning at all, Carlie sliced through her neck, catching her head a moment later. Nicky just looked shocked. “But you’re still aware, still moving.”
Carlie laughed. “And still talking. What’s more…”
Carlie replaced her head and slid herself back together, getting up a moment later. Nicky just looked a little dumbfounded. “Want to try?”
Nicky shook her head, clearly not ready. “Maybe in a little bit, but not now. I mean, I still have to wrap my head around this.”
Carlie just smiled as she replaced the blade.
A couple of hours later, as she was ready for bed, she had the same blade, ready to do it slower so that she’d feel it. This time, though, she’d do something different.
As she felt her head come off, she looked over as she slid the sword underneath the covers to her right. She was certain she wouldn’t slip up and cut something else off as she drifted off to sleep, happy, wonderful thoughts filling her head.
As she woke up the next morning, before anything else, she felt beneath the covers. Yes, the blade was still there, not vanished. It was as if hiding it worked.
She picked up her head, placing it back where it normally belonged, then her torso back on her hips as she got up, slipped on her slippers and tried to think of what else was going to happen today.
As she walked towards the closet, she just thought about what she wanted to wear before she opened the door she had a thousand times before, to try and decide what she was going to wear like she was used to…
Only to find her closet completely empty.
