The Scientific Method

Loosely based on the Fave winner NBM632.

As Carlie knocked on the door, she wondered what would happen next.  It wasn’t too long ago that she demonstrated, to her scientist friend, her unusual ability.

Ever since she was 14 years old, she’d been able to cut off parts of herself and stick them back on.  She realized it when her cousin accidentally cut off her finger and it kept moving.  She could still feel it and everything and it wasn’t any problem just reattaching it.

Since then, Carlie appropriated a saw and routinely cut off parts of herself.  It felt strangely good, never any pain, and each cut had a different feeling that she was exploring.

Still, David seemed a bit stuck-up.  Sure, he was scientifically minded, but it didn’t mean he knew everything.  He claimed that the human body was impossible to keep alive if anything was separated from the heart and/or brain, so, a couple of weeks ago, Carlie used a large knife and cut off her feet.

David expected gore and blood, expected Carlie to scream, but all she did was toss a foot to him, flexing it as proof that it was still, somehow, attached.

He was fascinated, intrigued and excited.  He explained that, for the most part, when a human had something cut off, there was blood and gore and pain and all that.  She told him she never experienced any of that and that the other thing happened to, at which point she reattached the other foot that he wasn’t holding.

Since then, he’d run tests on her.  She didn’t mind.  It all felt really good when she was separated, and she kind of wanted to know.  Shortly after that first event, he took her still-separated foot with him to a town a hundred miles away and, just like she expected, he ran a finger along her soul.  She laughed, still able to feel him tickling her.  And she knew her foot was squirming.

The next week, after she cut her head off, he monitored, wondering how long she could stay in pieces.  It still felt good, still enjoyable, as her body continued to move around and she was able to pick up her head, turning it when she wanted, for three days.  Then her head simply reattached, no outside forces.

But today was something different. “Ah, Carlie.”

She smiled at David. “Yeah, I’m here.  What’s up for today?”

David invited her in, and, aside from the usual furniture she expected, she saw an unusual setup. “I’d like to understand the reason your body stays alive when it’s divided.  This should help.”

Carlie sighed, not sure what that setup was about. “Ohay, what is it?”

David patted it. “It’s a customized frequency analyzer.  Needed to be customized for what we’re going to do.”

Looking at it, Carlie knew what he was expecting.  She already saw the implement waiting for her. “Okay, so I guess I should just saw myself in half?”

There was a twinkle in David’s eye. “Actually, if you don’t mind, I’m wondering…”

Carlie laughed, knowing exactly what he was suggesting. “Okay, you can do it.  Let me just…”

With minimal effort, Carlie laid on the ground, exposing her waist and smiling to herself.  If he only knew.  David hesitated a moment. “But what if that’s part of it?”

Carlie rolled her eyes. “First time I knew I could do this, it was my cousin.  I’m sure I’ll be fine.”

A thrill of excitement went through her as David picked up the saw, placing the ends on her waist.  She knew she could feel the pricks of the teeth as she smiled.

Sure, she could scare him.  She could scream, twitch out of the way, do all sorts of things to make him think he’d done something wrong, but Carlie wouldn’t do that, not on the first time.

David drew the saw across Carlie’s body and she gasped.  It felt good, different from usual, as the saw dug into her.  He kept going, and Carlie had to stifle a moan.  It really did feel so good.

The saw made its way through her body, inches at a time, and Carlie couldn’t help it anymore.  She kept moaning, louder and louder, knowing, feeling what was coming up.

As David started cutting into her spine, Carlie orgasmed.  David almost stopped but she demanded, yelled at him, to keep going.

As she knew she’d been severed in half, David looked over her a moment. “Are you okay?”

Carlie just kept smiling. “That was fantastic.  You were great.”

David blushed, but got down to business. “Okay, now, let’s get you set up.”

Without much preamble, he picked up her top half and laid it down, lining it up with the setup.  He slid it onto the cut end of her waist and Carlie had to giggle. “You know that skin is ticklish.  It’s very sensitive.”

David noted it, then turned to his computer.  Carlie lay there, not knowing, or even caring.  It still felt so wonderful to be in halves.

At David’s instruction, Carlie bent and crossed her knees.  She watched, interested if he’d pick up anything.  He concentrated on the screen, noting things, for a few minutes before he returned to her and removed the setup.  As she sat herself upright on her cut end, he sat across from her. “It’s fascinating.  There’s definitely some sort of electromagnetic energy emanating from your top half.  It’s almost imperceptable, but it’s definitely there.  It seemed to fluctuate when you moved your legs, as if the instructions were being relayed.”

He went on. “Normally, this would happen by electrical signals from the brain, activating certain muscles to move.  The signal, in your case, seems to be on a different scale entirely, making it work.”

Carlie laughed at his intensity. “You mean it’s like magic.”

David about corrected her, but realized something. “Yeah, I guess that’s the closest it can come.  Now, are you ready to be put back together or…”

She shrugged.  She didn’t mind staying in halves for three days.
