Song of the Nightingale
Part 8 of the Nightingale Saga
This series has been based almost entirely on the characters of the Royal Thieves from the Top Games game “Evony; The King’s Return.” The game is worth it and, I hope, you enjoy the series as well.
I can only take some credit for this as it’s all lore based on the characters I created with my own imagination.
Nightingale had to smile. She just had to. Stepping out of the booth meant another recording session completed, with her favorite manager and producer in attendance.
Sure, they’d been together for nearly 3000 years now, and they’d done a lot. Still, with the way the world of Evony was, now, breaking into places to steal things was not the best way to get their primary occupation done, so, instead, they “went legit.”
Even though she was over 3000, Nightingale looked to be in her early- to mid-twenties. Nell, ever the sharp mind, thought they could possibly work an angle with him as her producer and Duke, always ready for another scheme, as the manager making Nightingale into a singing sensation. She’d known she has the voice for it for millenia now.
But they did need to occasionally die. That was part of the whole scheme because it would be very suspicious if they didn’t age and stayed their current ages during the whole thing. So, there’s be the occasional helicopter crash, the occasional tour bus wreck or the overdosing, although Night hated doing that part. Then they’d come back, of course, a few years later as a new, exciting voice.
With computers becoming a larger part of the world, they’d be able to modulate Night’s voice and look, making her, for each part, a voice consistent with the trends of whatever era they were in. Night didn’t care, so much, but the money did keep rolling in, and, of course, they’d donate the majority of it.
But that was their cover. Even though they hadn’t been Royal Thieves for about a millennium now, they still found a very satisfying way to rob corrupt politicians and businesses, making their trails invisible as they used the methods of computer hacking to not only hack accounts but to transfer the funds to places they deemed worthy.
Hospitals had been funded, as had cancer institutes. They’d funded schools all over Evony, and, of course, Night did have her own special interest. Nell often teased her about it.
At first, it seemed harmless, and it was. But Nell often asked why she’d give money to many families all over the world, to which she said she “promised a friend.”
He’d always reminded her. “Your friend, the only one you were ever really in love with.”
Yes, she admitted it, all the time. They were Eagle’s descendants, and she was watching out for them. “I think I have an idea for when we get home,” she announced as she climbed into their limo. Being famous did have its perks.
Duke perked up. “Do tell.”
Nightingale had to grin as she laid out the plan. “We bankrupt this organization called Hasam and associates.”
Nell gave her a look, knowing she’d explain. “They are already morally and ethically bankrupt. Honestly, I’m surprised people still want to do business with them as they never did anything really wholesome.”
Nell gave her a serious look. “Do we want to go to the extreme measure with this Hasam guy?”
Nightingale thought for a moment. Extreme measure meant hiring one of the hit squads they sometimes employed. Some of them were pretty brutal in their executions, but she knew something. “No. He’s really nothing more than a jerk and a bully, pulling unethical stunts because he can. He’s not worth the effort to try and make an example of him.”
Nell accepted that, but Duke had to ask. “Where do we send all the money we’re going to take from that group, as if I have to ask.”
Night smiled at him, already knowing what he meant. “Some to our friend Gregory, of course.”
It had been a few years ago, but Gregory discovered their secret, discovered their immortality. For a small donation, every once in a while, all he’d do is create a series about immortals, but immortals that did battle with each other.
And, of course, he’d look for other real immortals. They’d spent 3000 years looking for other Dragon Kissed immortals, but, so far, they were the only ones they knew of. Who really knew what would happen.
“And, of course, the rest to Eagle’s family. It seems only right that Hasam’s downfall would benefit Eagle.”
As they pulled up to their apartment, they thanked their driver, and they went in. Night changed into something very leathery as they got to work on their latest conquest, Royal Thieves forever.
