Nanobots
It always seemed to happen. Every summer, at her apartment complex, there was always that one new girl who showed up with the kind of body that was built for a bikini. Never seemed to fail.
Carlie thought this as she went down to the pool, already in her bikini. Sure, she was cute enough, being so tiny, but she also knew that there would always be those that would instantly earn the envy of every girl who saw them.
And there she was, a hot, new blonde girl with a bikini that showed off an ample bosom, laying there, eyes closed. Carlie sighed. Another one.
She dropped her stuff and her towel and dove in, ready for her swimming routine.
After a couple of strokes, she saw that the new girl had flipped over. Okay, nothing unexpected. Carlie would be going to work on her tan after her routines herself.
But after a few laps of the pool, Carlie stopped what she was doing.
The girl was still on her front, but on her side as well, just casually watching her with her head in her hands.
And split in two at the waist.
Carlie sputtered to a halt, unable to stop from staring. The girl raised a hand, waving at her with a big smile, apparently unaware or uncaring that her hips and legs were completely detached. She laughed a moment before one of her legs raised, and Carlie had to get out of the pool.
She walked over, her towel in her hands, working on her hair, trying to think of something to say. “What? How?”
The girl smiled at her. “I could say magic, but it’s closer to science. My name’s Maya, by the way.”
Carlie shook her offered hand, still unable to look away from the neat, flat skin that stretched across where her upper half should’ve been. “Carlie.”
With another smile, Maya invited her to sit as she straightened her body up, pressing her halves together, then sat up as normal. “Now I’m sure you’d like to know.”
Carlie nodded, still not sure if she could form a coherent sentence. Maya just smiled, still not offended. “Well, it all started about three years ago. I was working at a medical robotics lab, purely as a research assistant, when I had the offer of a lifetime. How would I like to help with the testing of a new strain of nanobots?
“It was a strain that, hopefully, would help repair severely injured limbs. With what they offered to pay me I said yes. They wanted to know any side effects I might experience, both minor and major, so they injected the bots into my body.
“I felt a little weird at first, not sure what was going on, but that passed soon enough. It was when I got home things really got interesting, Carlie. My shoes were a little tight that particular day, but, as I pulled them off, my feet came off with them.”
Carlie gasped, not realizing how enraptured she was in Maya’s story. “What happened?”
Maya smiled again and Carlie realized she had a nice smile, before she went on. “Without knowing what to do, I looked at them a moment, picking them up and realizing I could still feel them. I twitched my toes, flexing them, and saw that they still worked. Not knowing what else to do, I tried pressing them to the ends of my ankles, where they belong, and they just reattached.”
Carlie looked down at Maya’s feet. “Can you still….?”
Maya lifted one of her shapely legs up, gently tugged on her foot, and it came clean off. She handed that foot to Carlie, and Carlie looked on, amazed. After a moment, she handed Maya’s foot back. “What else happened?”
“Well, seeing that was okay, there were a couple of magic tricks I’d always been interested in. But I didn’t have anything that could do them, I realized, until I realized that I just pulled my feet off. Without a second thought, I reached up and tugged on my head.
“It came clean off in my hands, and I started laughing. What sort of fun could I have at a kid’s magic party if a magician used me as a volunteer for a guillotine illusion?”
Carlie laughed at that, but still listened more. “What if he had a jigsaw frame?”
Maya laughed at that concept. “I can’t tell you what it feels like, but I pushed my body in halves, recognizing that I did divide cleanly at my waist. I was in pieces Carlie.”
Carlie leaned forward. “And what did the researchers say?”
Maya shrugged. “It’s something about the nanobots transmitting neurochemical and circulatory material through the membrane of the skin as they form a protective barrier to prevent anything else. I have the full workup on my phone if you’re interested.”
Carlie admitted she was, then had a confession to make. “You know, I’ve always fantasized about being able to do what you can do.”
Maya just smiled encouragingly as Carlie asked what she’d been wanting to know since she saw Maya in halves.
A few days later, Maya showed up at Carlie’s door, still looking stunning without really trying, presenting her with a fairly innocent looking hypo.
And Carlie took it, certain that she was ready for this.
