Fledgling
This Halloween story, as it obviously is, stars my friend and favorite assistant @MagicalFirefly
Carlie could honestly fly now if she so chose. At least she felt like she could. For the past few days, she’d felt so many wonderful things. And all because she’d been left for dead.
Her creep of a boyfriend decided that, when she wanted to call it off, because he kept pressuring her, he wouldn’t take no for an answer. After he had his way with her, he strangled her and dumped her in a ditch, thinking she was dead.
Blake found her in the morgue, and he knew she wasn’t dead. He was there to collect the blood from the corpses under the guise of biological waste disposal, but he had a much more interesting use for it. That’s when he could hear her heart beating, barely, and introduced himself.
He told her he could bring her back and that she’d be able to get revenge on the man who did this to her in a way nobody could ever deny. All he had to do was drink a little of her blood in exchange for some of his.
Carlie couldn’t balk at the offer she was barely aware. All she knew was a little pain on her neck and a sweet, sweet taste on her tongue a moment later. She felt strength return to her body as she craved that taste and reached up for more, only to realize it was Blake’s blood.
She felt stronger, better. Her energy had renewed itself. Her heart started beating faster, more alive. Then it started racing. What was going on?
Blake held her hand for a moment, telling her to just let it all relax. It wouldn’t take long. Then her heart stopped altogether.
But she was still alive. She sat up, aware of so many new sensations and new sounds and new smells. Blake offered her a taste of what he’d collected, the blood from the corpses, and she drank it. It didn’t satisfy her, but it did satiate her.
She knew what she was right away. Everything just clicked as she remembered all the stories and the legends. The word was vampire.
And it felt so good. The feeling of the clothes she wore intrigued her, and so did the smell of the morgue. Blake offered her a hand to get off of the table where they were going to do her autopsy, and she reveled in the sensation.
They found her some clothes, easily obtained, and she left the morgue, just another missing body. She felt the strength in her, knew she could do almost anything, so asked if she could now turn into a bat. Blake laughed and told her that was just a made-up part of the vampire lore to explain a few things. Yes, they could walk in daylight, no problem. No, they didn’t sparkle in the sun. They were unbelievably fast, though. If regular people didn’t know what they were looking for, they’d miss them.
She found out she would need blood. That was part and parcel of the whole being immortal now. But Carlie knew whose blood she wanted to taste first.
It took her a couple of days to find him, the jackass that left her for dead. He seemed so surprised when she walked through his window, like the angel of death herself.
She didn’t go for the kill directly, she wanted him to suffer first, the way he made her suffer. He did try to shoot her, but it felt like a little tickle compared to what he felt when she jabbed her hand through his gut.
Carlie laughed when he started to beg for mercy, taunting him that she’d begged for mercy while he was having his way with her. Ripping off his manhood was no problem, but then she knew she was ready.
Carlie felt the desire grow, the need to sate her thirst. There was already plenty to go around, but she wanted him to know what he’d created as her fangs emerged.
She plunged into his neck, sucking deeply at the torrent of blood spurting forth. It tasted so good, so vital. She drank him dry, not leaving a drop as she quickly moved to clean everything else up.
Carlie tossed the body out the window to make it look like he fell, maybe jumped. She didn’t care anymore, but she knew she felt good. She felt so good she tried to fly, but she found that she still couldn’t. She had to find Drake and get some answers from him.
She laughed as she found him in one of the nicer homes in the city. Did all vampires have a lot of money? Was that just another part of the legend?
She found Drake in the sitting room. At least that’s what she’d call it. He looked up at her, smiling. “I take it your vendetta is satisfied?”
Carlie just laughed as she took a seat. “Yes. Does all fresh blood taste so good?”
Drake nodded, smiling again. “Oh yes, but we can’t go around indiscriminately killing people. Not like that. It’s why I made arrangements at the several morgues in the city. Sure, dead blood doesn’t taste quite so fresh, but it helps. Now, are you ready to hear about the rest of what we can do?”
Carlie leaned forward, listening attentively. Drake told her that, even though the human world imagines a vampire can be quite vulnerable to such things as not being invited in or sunlight or even a little thing like beheading. Carlie stopped him. “Wait, we don’t die if we get our heads cut off?”
Drake shook his head. “Nope. We can even control our bodies at that point.”
Carlie felt her curiosity pique. “And what about other divisions?”
Drake thought about it a moment. “I’m not sure. I know we can only be killed if a stake made of ash or silver impales our hearts. I don’t know what else can happen.”
Carlie smiled as she really wanted to know. “So, you can cut my head off and I’ll still be able to move? Can you cut me in half as well?”
Drake’s eyebrows raised. “You want me to cut off your head and cut you in half? Why?”
Carlie’s eyes rolled. “I’ve always been fascinated by that. I mean, sure, I know that the TV stuff is just a bunch of silly illusions, but I always wanted to know.”
Drake sighed, then got up and pulled out a sword from somewhere. Carlie would’ve shuddered at the thought when she was mortal, but she wasn’t anymore. She felt so good at this that she willingly laid down, baring her waist, before Drake raised the blade and swung it at her neck.
The sensation was odd, feeling her head detach. It wasn’t a pop, like she thought it would be. More of a scraping, and it felt good. She found herself still breathing, as if it was still on, and tried to speak. “Go ahead, chop me in half.”
Drake raised the sword again and brought it down. Carlie felt a moment of pain as the sword began to slice into her waist, feeling it drag along her body as a sensation of pure pleasure enveloped her. She could still feel everything as the sword went through her spinal column, and she kicked her feet experimentally.
With her detached head laughing, she felt intense pleasure, almost equal to killing her ex. Drake finished the cut and Carlie felt her torso lift up as she pulled herself apart.
Here she was, a vampire in three pieces now. She had to know the full effect. “Tickle my feet.”
Drake looked at her wonderingly, then shrugged and started to brush his fingers on the soles of her feet.
Carlie liked being tickled before, but this was way better. She laughed, unable to stop herself, and wondered why her head wasn’t rolling all over the place. She found she could reach up and, with a little bit of guidance, take hold of her head with her hands. She lifted it up, surveilling the scene of her body in two parts with a head above her chest.
Not knowing if it’d be possible, Carlie turned her head and placed the two stumps together. A moment later, with a great deal of pleasure, she felt her head reattach to her neck. She asked Drake to stop tickling her, although he looked like he was having fun doing so, as she lined up her halves, pushing them together.
After a moment of pure pleasure from the rejoining, she asked Drake to help her up.
Being a vampire was going to be a lot of fun, she thought.
