The World’s Greatest Card Trick
Here’s the thing about this story, it’s based on a trick that can actually be done, but nobody’s done it yet.
Wendi had been out with quite a few friends at the start of the night. Slowly, one by one, they seemed to disappear with some gentlemen who caught their eyes. That was okay by her account.
Her and two others were all that was left as they went into the small club to close out the night. Wendi was feeling a little buzzed but could see the center stage of the club was already set up. “Looks like a magic show.”
Tammy laughed and said they might as well see what sort of corny magician they were going to pull out. The three girls sat down, close to the stage, to try and laugh when they spotted the tricks. Wendi was trying to remember what she knew of magic, trying to remember where to look.
But this magician, The Amazing Alvin, was apparently very well practiced. She honestly couldn’t see where the things he made appear came from. He didn’t wear a jacket, just a tank top and jorts. But things kept appearing.
At the end of the show, Alvin took some applause then said he needed a volunteer for the closing act, a card trick. In fact, he said it was the world’s greatest card trick that had never been seen anywhere else.
Either Wendi was excited or drunk, she couldn’t tell which, as she stood up and walked onto the stage. Alvin tried to catch her a little, but she stayed upright. He asked her name, then fanned a full deck of cards at her. “Now, Wendi, let’s make things a little more difficult. Write your name on the face of the card.”
Wendi took the sharpie he offered and sloppily wrote her name. “Now, insert the card back into the deck wherever you choose, then shuffle the deck as much as you want.”
Wendi did so, trying to make sure it was thoroughly lost. Alvin hadn’t taken the deck from her at all, just observed. After she announced she was done, Alvin squared the deck. “I’m sure you’ll agree the card Wendi chose is thoroughly shuffled into the deck, no way I could find it. What if I made the whole deck disappear, though?”
At that, he brought the deck to Wendi’s bared midriff. She looked down. “What are you…?”
The question was cut off when Wendi could swear, she felt the entire deck enter her body. She continued to look down at herself, completely dumfounded. Alvin accepted the applause, but then turned to Wendi. “Where do you think the deck went, Wendi?”
She could honestly tell him where she felt it. “It’s in me.”
Alvin nodded, smiling. “And what do you think we need to do to get the deck out of you?”
Wendi looked at him a little terrified. “What?”
Alvin walked to a low bench that was at the back of the stage and pushed it forward. “Wendi, would you please lie down?”
Not sure what else to do, Wendi did as Alvin requested. “Folks, you’ve seen this trick done many times before, usually with a box or a covering or some other sort of concealment. You’ve probably even seen those exposed magic specials that show what the illusion is supposed to be. Well, in order to get my cards back and identify Wendi’s mystery card, we’re going to do something completely different.”
Wendi looked on, scared. What was he going to do to her? The buzz was gone now, burned away by the fear she felt. It only heightened when Alvin brought out a large handsaw. “You’re going to saw me in half?”
Alvin smiled and nodded. “Don’t worry. I’ve been told that it’s a pleasant experience.”
Wendi heard the words, but they sounded so hollow. What was she doing up here? Should she run and try and figure out how to get the cards out of her? Would any doctor really believe her?
But how did the cards get in her?
Sure, she was afraid, but, in a moment, curiosity also rose up. Was Alvin the real deal?
She nodded, and he placed the saw on her waist. She held her breath as he started to push the saw and she felt it go into her.
He was right. It felt good.
Wendi watched, curious and excited, as he pulled the saw across her waist again. Two cards flew out of her, and she started to laugh. He pushed the saw into her again and three more flew out.
As he continued to saw into her, she noted that she could feel where it was, more cards flew out of the cut that was her waist. She was feeling so good right then she was laughing, watching more cards fly out of her.
When Alvin started sawing into her spine, Wendi’s eyes rolled back into her head, and she moaned in pure pleasure. After another moment, Wendi felt the prickles in her back as the saw finished severing her body in half.
Alvin looked around her at all the cards scattered all over the place. “Well, that’s about all of them, but what about the one Wendi chose?”
Wendi had almost forgotten about that card, but she was feeling so good then. “What about it?”
Alvin pulled on Wendi’s legs, fully separating her halves to a round of applause. He held up his hand as he reached under her top half to where her waist had been cut and pulled off a single card, the King of Diamonds, Wendi’s chosen card with her name written on it.
Alvin put her back together and gave Wendi the card. Wendi, however, couldn’t explain what happened to her. But she knew there was only one experience to top it, and she was ready to track her guy down.
