Time for Echo to go through an overdue initiation.<br /><br />Echo gets her name from a neurodivergent behavior she expresses called palilalia, which entails involuntary repetition of her last spoken word or phrase. This is often mislabeled as "echolalia," which is the involuntary repetition of someone ELSE's last spoken word or phrase. Extra heads, as you might expect, blur this distinction.<br /><br />Or do they? *cue Vsauce music*<br /><br />Unlike the Head Count ladies for whom additional heads are part of their everyday forms, Echo's are neither micromanageable novelty limbs nor conjoined clones with independent personalities. Their only overt function is to copy or harmonize with whatever Echo says, thus relieving the compulsions of her palilalia without having to act them out with just one face. The jury is still out on whether Echo feels more or less awkward about it this way, but what's interesting is that her copied speech isn't exact. Sometimes there's a change in tone or phrasing from the mouths of the repeaters, indicating that Echo is correcting herself or revealing her true feelings about something.<br /><br />But which of Echo's heads is the one in charge? You would think it's the center, but it's actually not easy for outsiders to tell, as all three of them claim to be in charge simultaneously... Even a brain scan would deliver inconclusive results.
