Secret Santa time on the 910CMX forums has finally come, and it's my turn to post. It's Tyris! Once again I was tasked with the challenge of drawing a male (and he won't be the only one to show up in my art this month) and I think I delivered... somehow. I actually messed up shading his jacket, so I decided to use this opportunity to experiment with color choice for the darker tones. I'm beginning to see why many digital artists prefer to use dark blue for everything. It works wonders for cloth and objects the same way brown works wonders for flesh. ^^ That said, there's hardly any brown in this one, but I felt that red conveyed the fairness of Tyris's skin much better. From the description I got, it sounded like he was a bit of a nerdy individual... if he could be called an individual. >.> Much like dear ol' RoMi, the subject of Tyris's identity is a complicated one. He always refers to himself using plural pronouns, and he can self-replicate using the retrometabolizer on his forearm.

Speaking of the retrometabolizer, I decided to evoke a Zeerust style for all the little bits of technology seen here, which also includes the Noisy Cricket-esque laser gun and the headband with the little antennae sticking out. I did this to create some stylistic synergy with his ship, which is seen in the background as a sort of blocked-in design. I figured that if I drew the ship in my usual way, it would draw too much attention to itself and make the drawing look "busy."

I'm pretty sure I messed up something fierce on his right hand, but I suppose that's the price I pay for trying to make his hands look distinctive. =/ Oh well. I think I got the point across.

Tyris is (C) ...umm... Tyris. >.>
