If there's one thing you need to know about Morgan, it's that he has a massive sweet tooth. Every year, his mouth waters at the mention of Halloween. All of that free candy, just waiting to be taken! Eaten!
It was too good an opportunity to pass up, even though he is now a college student. All of his friends would be off at parties or hanging out watching horror movies this year, but Morgan still plans to go trick-or-treating.
As soon as he sees Halloween decorations going up, the research begins. Every year, Morgan spends hours sleuthing the internet to see what the most popular costumes will be. He also never goes the easy route and buys something off the shelf. No, he knows that to maximize candy intake, he needs to go overboard. He needs to wow the candy givers. On average, he can fill up close to three large pails of candy but this year he’s going for even more!
This year will be difficult without his friends helping him, but that just means he can take everything for himself. After spending most of September doing research, watching interviews on popular blogs, and even asking younger family members, he figures out the ultimate costume this year. It’s Dolly Wolly!
Apparently, the brand of incredibly popular baby dolls recently came out with life-size versions that are flying off the shelves. His older sister has one but hers is “regular” sized. It’s still waist-high though! These new dolls are adult-sized, making them not only expensive, but also the coolest thing for fans to play dress up with.
He'd seen pictures of people dressing up as Dolly Wolly's before, but usually it was just a simple dress with some over the top doll makeup. "Too simple," he grumbles, "No one is going to be wow'ed by that. I need something bigger..." And then inspiration strikes.
This year the most popular Dolly is the ‘Amy’. The original Dolly Wolly, she was released as a limited-edition adult-sized doll and is already impossible to find. But she is it. She is Morgan's ticket to getting at least ten buckets of candy this year. He even has the perfect reference because his sister has the original Amy doll!
"Oh my god, of course I'll help you!", cries his sister, "That will be so much fun. You know, on top of dressing like Amy, you should make yourself the box she comes in. It'd be ICONIC! You'd get so much candy lil bro. I'll help you with your makeup and everything. You get to ordering everything you need, I'll ask my friend to help sew you something."
Weeks go by and the day of Halloween arrives. With everything set before him and his sister, Morgan starts getting ready.
He undresses and gets to work putting on the Dolly Wolly undergarments. His sister's friend has done an amazing job of creating a 1:1 replica of Amy's outfit that fits Morgan perfectly. To make sure everything is an exact replica, he tapes himself into a cartoonishly puffy diaper before pulling a pair of pink plastic panties over it.
Looking at himself in a mirror, he can see the Dolly Wolly logo emblazoned across his diapered cheeks. Blushing, he pulls on a camisole, happy that the Amy Dolly Wolly doesn’t have a real chest. Next, he slides on a pair of thigh-high, white stockings with hearts on them. Some frills at the top hide an elastic band on which he applies spirit glue to keep them from slipping all night. This advice was courtesy of his incredibly helpful sister.
Next comes the pièce de résistance: the Amy dress.
His sister's friend had sewn it from a soft pink satin fabric and added the appropriate frills and bows in a baby blue cotton. The dress and accessories are immaculate, perfectly soft and stiff in all the right places.
He lifts the dress over his head and feels the satin tickle his body as it slides into place. He has a bit of trouble stuffing his arms through the tight puff sleeves and even tighter collar, but in the end it is perfect!
He steps into the accompanying petticoat, allowing the skirt to fluff up to just the perfect volume. Spying himself in the mirror, he gives a small twirl and notices that just like the Dolly, you can just barely see his plastic pants on display from behind. Somewhat embarrassed, he steps into his pink, sky-high heels and locks them closed on their strap. Yet another wonderful idea from his helpful sister so he doesn’t have to worry about adjusting them.
Stepping out of his room, he finds it somewhat difficult but manages to keep balance on his heels. His sister squeals with delight as he minces into her room where she has a vanity ready for him. She takes out out her phone and before he can stop her, takes several pictures.
"Oh don't worry, I'm not going to share these! I'm just so happy to see my Dolly come to life! Well, it's a bit weird seeing her with a boy's head but we'll go ahead and fix that. Sit!"
She grabs Morgan and pushes him into her vanity chair. Within seconds, he is bombarded from all directions by blush, eyeliner, lipstick, powder, foundation, massive eyelashes…it was too much to keep track of! After an hour of applying makeup, she finally gets to work on his wig.
Pulling his hair into a wig cap, she applies small amounts of spirit glue to the band to keep it from slipping. After that, she attaches a heavy head of light brown curls to his head. She crowns him with a magnificent pink bow. After what feels like an eternity of pain, his sister claps her hands as she asks him to stand up and pose for her.
"AHHH! You're a perfect Dolly! Ok. Here! Do some of the Dolly Wolly poses from the website, don't worry I won't share these,” she giggles while taking out her phone. “But seriously you owe me this much, let me have some fun!"
He sighs as he places himself into various doll-like poses in her room, even holding the smaller version of Amy at times. "Eeeeee, ok, time to get into your box Amy, your audience awaits!"
The box in question is a perfect replica of that in which the Dolly Wolly's come in. It is bubblegum pink with a large plastic window to view the Dolly. Outside, there is no question what he is with the Dolly Wolly logo placed on the box.
The only difference is a small hole at the bottom that allows Morgan to fit his heels through and walk. There are also a few holes on top just in case anything happens. Before applying the plastic window, Morgan steps into the box, placing his feet through the tiny hole. As he holds up the box, his sister takes the liberty of placing the final touches. As with any doll, the box comes with plastic zip ties that prevent Amy from jostling around and ruining her dress. Well, zip ties are a bit much, in reality they’re thick gray ribbons.
Around Morgan’s neck is a ribbon choker to imitate the zip ties. In the back, the choker is attached to the box. Once Morgan's wrists are secured against the box, they keep him from leaving the box but also make sure he stands straight and proper. Throughout the process, he hears several clicks from behind. With that, his sister places the plastic shield on the box.
"Okay Dolly Wolly, time to check yourself out!" She spins Morgan around to her mirror and he gasps. He looks…scrumptious! He is the perfect replica of the Amy Dolly Wolly. As he moves, he can see glimpses of the signature plastic pants as well. He is going to get so much candy this year!

"Alright, time for us to head out. Hope you have so much fun trick-or-treating! Oh my god, your costume is already going viral, I just posted the finished look on Insta..." she says as she pushes Morgan out the front door. “Alright, remember to get back by ten! No way you’re getting out of that box otherwise…I’ll leave the keys with our neighbor if you don’t show up. It’s your old friend, Jessica! She’s back in town for the night. Bye!”
Morgan is about to admonish her as he turns around only to see the door slam in his face. Sighing, he turns and starts making his way towards the sidewalk. He slowly realizes that with the small hole at the bottom, he can only take small mincing steps in his high heels.
As the wind blows outside, it turns out there is just enough room for air to enter his box and billow his skirts around. With his wrists tied up, he is powerless to keep his dress flying up and revealing his plastic pants. He blushes heavily behind his heavy makeup.
Nonetheless, Morgan didn't put in all this work to have any of that stop him from his goal of candy, candy, candy. He minces past several trick-or-treaters, with fellow costumed candy seekers gasping and praising him for his Dolly Wolly.
While he stops to pose for some pictures (he walks too slow to get away really), the praise for his costume energizes him. And then after too many painstakingly long minutes, he makes it to the first neighborhood. He skips past several houses because he knows to start with the heavy hitters.
Walking up to a huge house with tons of decorations, he maneuvers his box to hit the doorbell. Opening the door, a towering Frankenstein's bride appears. "Oh my god, you look amazing! I had Amy when I was a little girl too. Awwww! Ok, Dolly Wolly, what do we say?"
"Trick or treat!"
"So perfect! …Ok where's your pail?"
"M-my pail? Oh, ummm..." And there it is. The only flaw in his plan. How is he supposed to take any candy if his hands are tied up?! He should have attached a bucket to the outside at least! Dolly Wolly has so many accessories…her handbag would’ve been a perfect pail!
"Awww, did the poor Dolly forget her pail? It's ok, let's do this." The tall bride reaches for the top of his box and drops three handfuls of candy into the holes up top. "There you go Dolly. Who needs a pail when you can just fill up your box", she giggles as she closes the door.
Looking down at his prizes, Morgan's mouth begins watering. This is going to work after all! He'd just head home after he fills up the entire box. That's way more than ten pails of candy! As he teeters back towards the sidewalk, he can hear the candy clattering against the floor. Curse these ties on my wrist, he thinks.
After a few more houses, Morgan finds another problem. If he walks too fast, the candy makes its way towards the hole where his feet go. He actually needs to ask some other costumed folk to help him put it back in, at the cost of having his picture taken. Then there’s the weight issue…but all of that goes straight to the back of Morgan's mind once the candy starts pouring in again.
The Dolly Wolly minces their way down the sidewalk to the next house, happy as a Dolly trick-or-treating can be. After all, their costume is perfect, so why shouldn’t the night be?
