“Boy, the moon sure is bright out tonight. That’s the advantage of being so far from civilization. No light pollution hiding the stars in the night sky. You can see thousands of ‘em...
You know, ancient people used to think staring at the moon for too long would drive you crazy. That’s where we get the word Lunatic from, did you know that? Oh don’t worry, I’m quite sure I’m sane, though I don’t know if you’d take my word for it.
Brrr… Just feel that cold night air. Brings out goosebumps, doesn’t it? I can see you’re shivering. Sorry, but that nightie you were wearing wouldn’t have kept you any warmer anyway, right? I suppose a gentleman would offer you his jacket...but as you’ve probably guessed, I’m no gentleman. Don’t worry. It’s not much further now. Of course, I suppose there could be another reason you’re shivering… Heh…
I guess you might be wondering “why me?” “What did I do?” And truth be told, there isn’t a reason. My last guest recently escaped and once I finished settling in here, I needed to look for a new one and hey, there you were, so pretty and sweet, walking up the street towards me. Of course, it helped you lived all by yourself, without any close neighbors. It’s like it was meant to be!
No, no, don’t cry my dear. I won’t hurt you! I’m going to take good care of you, keep you locked up safe and secure. And this time I won’t let you get away or let anyone take you away like with all the others.
Screaming won’t help either. Even if you didn’t have that gag on, we’re so far out into the woods, I very much doubt there’s anyone else around in earshot anyway. And stop struggling. You’re not going to get away and the more you pull on the leash, the longer it will take us to get there. Would you rather spend all night out here in these dark woods? Or would you like to get in out of the cold and rain and see your new home? I just know you’re going to love it! Everything you could ever want.
Ah, here we are. Let me just tie this leash to this tree trunk for a moment. Don’t want you running off! Though I doubt you’d get far with your feet hobbled, it’s easy to get lost and if you tripped on a root or something, with your hands tied you could get hurt in a fall.
Now, let me just find that hatch… aha! Cunningly camouflaged, don’t you think! You could be standing right on top of it and unless you didn’t know it was there, you’d never see it. Now come on, watch your footing on the stairwell, it’s pretty steep.
Now, before I close up the hatch, turn around just a second. You can see the moon directly above us, shining down through that gap in the trees. Isn’t it beautiful? Take a good long look, it’ll be a long time before you see the outside world again...
