Had to have high, high hopes for a living. Shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing. Didn't have a dime, but I always had a vision Always had high, high hopes!
The chance of a lifetime stood before Pete Dunne. He had the chance to finally showcase all the talent he possessed. The chance to change his career for the better. He had the ultimate test in facing three other men. Those being: Edge, Christian, and the now former European champion, TJP. As the success came full circle, Pete Dunne would secure the European championship with a close encounter between the four talented performers. Now Dunne finds himself in the midst of the coveted Rise to Glory tournament. The week prior, Bobby Roode, and Pete's proverbial thorn in his side, TJP were both victorious. Thus advancing their own pursuit to the crown, but for Dunne -- This week would prove to be his first test in this tournament. After shocking with the world by aligning with Triple H, a man close to Triple H in his own right stood in front of Dunne. That man was none other than Randy Orton. This is where our scene opens. The imagery waste no time as we see Dunne sitting at a flight of stairs. Of course, Dunne stood at the bottom of the long stairway as he looked upward. A soft sigh escapes from Dunne as he starts this cameo with a short, but impact filled introduction.
PETE DUNNE: So, here we are. A man chosen by his own destiny. The chance of a lifetime sets before my very eye. The embodiment of everything I've ever wanted -- It starts tonight. After I accepted my pride, and aligned wit' Hunter; I knew that the possibilities were endless. Some would even go as far as to say tha' I sold out...
Dunne allows a cold, calculated smile to slowly creep across his face as the thoughts ran endlessly through his mind. Simply aligning with Triple H was a success in of itself, but with a man of Dunne's talent level, he truly could be headed to bigger and better things. However, he first had to remained focus on his upcoming foe, that man being one known for being a wild card. A man who could strike at anytime. Randy Orton was a dangerous advesary for Dunne, but he knew the challenge that would be brought forth by his success. He knew this was what he had signed up for. The real question remains left unanswered: Can Pete Dunne defeat Randy Orton?
PETE DUNNE: It's funny tha' people are talkin'. It only took me alignin' wit' tha' biggest name in this business in order to get my name heard. Albeit, I hardly care about wha' tha' people think about me. Feel free to target me, and say I don't DESERVE each and every success that has ever come to me. People are gonna look at tha' mere fact I'm goin' face to face wit' a man symbolic with Hunter. Isn't that right, Randall Keith?
The blatant disrespect came from Dunne, as he refused to call Randy by his ring name. A common trait of his over the years. Dunne would slowly shake his head from side to side as he latched his tight grip around the base of the railing alongside the stairway. He would take a single step upward, as he would pause once more, gazing upward at the reflection of himself that stood several feet up the flight of stairs. Dunne sheds a confident glare at his European championship before continuing his verbal assault at the expense of Orton.
PETE DUNNE: It's quite odd that we find ourselves in tha' predicament in which we do, Randal. After all tha' ups and down in your career that have been shared with Hunter, I find it rather symbolic tha' I'll be tha' man who finally rids this business of tha' livin', breathin', below average epitome of pitiful man for which are. 'Ya might find it a lil' funny, but at one time; Randal, I actually admired you. I watched your ever move. I saw that glimmer of angst, anger, and determination. In fact, I somewhat wish tha' this will be tha' Randal, I face in the midst of my arena. However if I were to do that, I'd be an even bigger fool than tha' rest of these competitors thinkin' they have a chance at takin' my keys to tha' throne.
Dunne shakes his head in disgust, almost baffled by anybody who would dare to oppose the European champion. In his own mind, and even Triple H's, Dunne had the skills needed to go all the way. Dunne had all the talent in the world. He just had to execute it. With that in mind, Dunne makes a few more steady steps up the stairs as he beams backwards towards us, the viewers. His eyes tell a story of a man hellbent on success. If his eyes could tell a single tale -- It would be one of redemption. One of proving all the doubters wrong. All the people who said Pete Dunnewould never make it to this point of his career -- This was for all of them. Once more Dunne proudly adjust the championship over his shoulder as he swiftly resumes.
PETE DUNNE: At one point, Randal -- You were known as tha' Legend Killer. A man who set his sights on some of tha' biggest performers in this industry. But as time passed; Our Legend Killer became tha' legend. 'Ya became tha' one thing that you despised most in this business .Tha' person everybody was talkin' about. That was you Randal. Everybody wanted to be just like you. Myself included. That killer mentality. That lustful urge to hurt people. I admired that, but then? As I got older. I got better. I started fightin' my way up tha' ladder, and people took notice. I, just like you in tha' past had a chance to prove myself. Just like you I was taken under tha' wing of Triple H.
Dunne can't help but crack a smile. The mere fact he was falling in the same threshold of Randy Orton was an accolade in of itself. Dunne takes another swift step up the stairs as he slowly sets the European championship at his feet. We watch as he slowly runs his hand across the nameplate. The gold letting of his name scratched across his flesh, as his prideful grin slowly shifted to one of determination. The very same look Dunne wore before becoming the European champion.
PETE DUNNE: And as Hunter watched on -- He soon knew tha' I was tha' future of this business. Just as you were all those years ago. And it's rather strange. I was never a firm believer in tha' sayin': "History repeats itself", but this lil' encounter changed everything. Like Excalibur of tha' old ages; the sword is planted firmly in tha' stone. But in this encounter; Randal; you're no King Arthur. You, lad are tha' stone, and I'm tha' king who removes tha' sword from your well bein'. Tha' hope of you bein' a champion again ends at my expense. My cold bare hands will stop 'ya within' a mere inch of your life. Tha' age of Orton will soon cease to exist. Tha' Legend of Orton will die. And wit' your name etched in tha' background of my career -- I will remain tha' WWEx European champion of tha' world, but soon enough, Pete Dunne will become tha' WWEx champion. 'Cause I can, and I will. I'm gonna destroy everything you have ever built, Randal. Everything you ever loved, will be ended at my hands. Everything you cherish. It's now mine, Randal. Your legacy ends. Your career over from a man who was never supposed to make it. This is it. Tha' everlasting "Legacy" to your own misfortune filled "Evolution." It's nothin' personal, Randal. It's simply wha' is best for business...
Those would be the last words from Dunne who would slowly reach downward to pick up his European championship. He would slowly place the championship as he reached the top of the stairs. He would look down at his championship one final time as he let a soft snicker escape from him. His confidence was at an all time high, but really, can you blame him? The scene ends strongly as Dunne lowers himself onto a single knee, his eyes look up at the ceiling once more as he positions his championship highly in the air. This was his war to wage. A battle between two of the best performers in the world. The testament of all his hard work would be put into full effect with this epic clash between Randy Orton. Would Dunne follow up on his hate filled words, or would an RKO out of nowhere thwart his plans of becoming the WWEx champion? All this and more will be answered on an action packed episode of Genesis. Tune in for this, and more shocking developments. You won't wanna miss it.
