The surreal embrace of twilight was most precious in the desert, where the sand gave it a romantic sadness unlike any other. Twilight was his favorite time of day; he could be pensive freely, could be lonesome without being bored and empty. It was the silence before nocturnal creatures awoke; a breath before life arose once more. He enjoyed the livid silence; the bruised skies that sparkled with excited stars; stars that stretched their rays like limbs as they awoke to their blackened version of morning. Such oddly enjoyable anxiety spread across the land, like a breath before a first kiss. Twilight really was so romantic, but in its own way.

The tattered flecks of sand that were dancing in the air were so handsome, their age and years spent floating about the skies, and dancing on oceans of desert grain, gave them such silent wisdom; wisdom you wanted to hear, but couldn't. Their thoughts were nothing but a beautiful mystery; they were the rogue femme fatales waltzing on the ballroom floor, lifting so lightly and elegantly that you wanted to know all their secrets. The sands were damsels hidden in a masquerade.

Tonight though, he would know no such sand. Tonight there would be only dirt; hard and immobile dirt that clung to vegetation, boringly selfless and dark; unaware of the twilight which was hidden from them by the branches of trees. In the desert; the coming of night was a celebration, but here?

The dirt did not celebrate; the trees would selfishly sway, laughing, for only they could see beauty in the skies. The parakeets however, had the last laugh, soaring over the leaves and allowing their vibrant feathers to become drenched in purple and pink. It was a different take on night's edge, something new.

They had wondered of trail, they had not informed anyone in there group of what they where doing and where they where going, they had left there jeep and started to walk through the blowing sands. They where close, close to the underground hidden tome that time has forgotten, imagine that they are going to be the first people to open it, to walk inside and fin its secrets, it was all so much that it brought a wide smile to his face as he walked forward, knowing that they where getting closer and closer.

The red glow of the sunset bathed the two figures in an exotic light through the breaking of leaves above them. Such was the heartbeat of the desert as the sun drifted away, setting the sands aflame. Its captivating embrace held the two figures, eyes glued onto sandy dunes in the distance, only visible for a brief moment before the night enticed the sands to reflect the starry skies above.

Time was ageless, and if sand was what represented time, then that too must endure the beginning and the end of the world. Mysteries held so infinantly in those small grains stretching for miles. It was dangerous to treck onto their ageless grounds, to witness the extravigance of their wisdom and yet here they sat, awaiting the morning sun and hoping for some clue to as to why the sand was so easiely swayed by the wind and yet so heavy that it can erase entire towns in one storm like locus.

Tonight they imagined the lost cities below the sands, hidden deep within the ground, silently waiting to be found. It was so far away, further than ever tonight as they sat upon the hard ground, dirt slathered over their once clean clothes as the trees swayed with mocking. It was foolishness that made them act, even knowing just how easily the weather can change. The five minute rest wasn't nearly enough to stop her legs from aching. Fit, though she was, she was not prepared for this kind of work out. She knew now, why the tomes had yet to be found, she could see the dense foliage, the unnatural erriness that fell over the area like a cold hand, pressing on her chest. Every step they took brought them closer to the one dream they both shared. The unmasking of Egyptian artifacts, and yet, why was she so nervous? Perhaps it was the excitement getting to her or the unnatural feeling that settled in this place. She looked up at you as they walked.

"Do you think we'll find it? This place is pretty big. We could be here for days, weeks even!" She panicked a little at the thought.

The faint breeze that swept the land draped in azure had met with the ground, scooping the surface and manifesting such a sight of elegance with the sand dancing with the wind. My eyes for that moment move and look at the woman that is in my company with me. We have both took it upon ourselves to find this tome and unlock the secrets before anyone else.

We wandered, wandered through the lifeless desert in order to find his way to a place we can retreat to. So we continued to wander in the endless sands, walking step by step, wandering into the aimless world of times forgotten. But are luck soon changed in time.

Just as she spook about the time it would possibly take us to fine what we are looking for, beneath are feet we would notice that the sand feels lightly different as if it where harder if that was possible.

"Maybe we have been looking in the wrong places for all this time, maybe we got lucky this time, I think it is right beneath us!"

He says as he stamps his foot on the ground, confirming that indeed they are standing on stone. This was indeed there lucky day for once, they have found what no others have. But that was of course the easy part, getting in was going to be tricky, but the deadliest part of this whole adventure was unlocking the secrets in the tomes.

"The unmasking of Egyptian artefacts, does it not get your heart racing. This is what we have been waiting for this one moment, ti get are names in the history books!"

Excitement was not even the word to describe him right now. He was over the moon, he wanted this all his life and now it was almost time. Rumours have said that people have found this tome, only to never be seen again, that thieves are punished rightfully by the old gods of the deserts. But as everything it was a myth, and myths are never real….
