She smiled as she lay against your chest. How like you to make a joke and at a time like this. She wasn't sure if it was simply brave or foolishness. But she knew... she knew it would not be your end, and the surprise was more than you cared to imagine. Death is no surprise. Living is.

She listened to your heart, hearing its beat grow faint. She could feel your breath as you tried with difficulty to keep it even and keep it full but the air that swirled deep into your lungs would soon change. Soon it would feel like fire, then you will taste everything around you. Simple smells of rain and grass will become that much more pronounced. Knowing this, knowing that you will not be human anymore, she did this. Even through the dim light of past memories, she still remembered her former life and she knew that she could not bare the life of a wolf of the night and of the forest alone.

She lifted up her head, staring into your eyes. They were so deep that she was lost in them before she remembered the situation at hand. She could smell your blood. Gently she licked away the blood trickling down your chin.

"You'll be fine... it's always like this."

She smiled.

"There will be a short stop... but not for long. Your heart will beat again I promise you that. It will beat stronger than before. Then you will feel the change. It's not death... it's life."

I lie there, slowly dying a painful death, emerald eyes faintly open as I stare upwards. It is an odd thing, I can hear my heart beating, the final beats ringing out as my life comes to an end. I merely watch, unable to do anything, unable to move an inch of my body as the women would tend to me and stay at my side. I am not stupid, I am not a fool that many took me for, even I can put two and two together and work out what is truly going on in this forest.

My eyes shift across, her head bowing, her tongue passing by her supple lips as she would lick the dripping blood off as if it was acceptable to do such a barbaric thing at a time like this. Such animalistic behaviour from a person that has caused this to happen to me. My lips would gently part ways as I would speak in a weak tone of voice.

"You where that…….animal……weren't you….."

Perhaps my selection of wording may be a bit insulting, to refer to her as a mere common animal. A mere mutt of the forest, a mere animal, lower than are own species. Was it insulting, perhaps it was, did I mean for it to be insulting, yes I did. It was the only way to find out if it was her or not. Her reaction would tell me everything I needed to know. That what I thought was real, then I will have to act to safe myself.

I do not want to die, I do not understand anything that she is jabbering on about, but if what I think is true, then with my last actions I will try to put things amend, I will attempt to make my life have some kind of meaning by doing something right for once.

She froze at your words. She had hoped that you would not notice, that you would remain ignorant to her true form. She didn't want you to find out until it was absolutely necessary. Her heart raced inside her chest. She wanted to hear more of your words but at the same timed feared them. She tensed her hands then spoke to you softly, as if it was completely normal for these types of things to happen.

"I'm what... is commonly referred to as... a werewolf." She tried to keep her voice even but it was obvious that even she was frightened of her own existence and how you might take it which was what really scared her. "You won't die... please... please stop this talk."

She wiped away a tear and looked away from you. She knew her venom was spreading quickly. The bite of a werewolf always does. She remembered how her last days as a human were wrought with pain and despair, only to have her eyes open again in a new life... but the pain was still there...

My heart beating slower and slower, I can feel it you know that. I can feel myself slipping into the gracious after life. If this is what death feels like then I do not want this feeling, I want to continue to live, to breathe, to grow old and die naturally. I do not want any of this, and so with all my power, with all my strength, with what little I have left I would act to safe myself.

As she would speak I would shift my weight to the side and roll over onto my stomach, removing my hand from my would as the blood would pour out below me, pushing myself up lightly, onto my hands and knees, my fingers spreading out into the dirt as I get to grips of things, my vision blurry with tears and blood as I would listen to your far fetched tale.

"Such……a thing is absurd…….there is no such thing….."

I would mutter, painful to speak my words as my chest has been crushed by the beast, moving my hands I would look like a broken human, trying to crawl away from death itself, slowly moving my hands and knees, trying to reach the car, where items of safety are withheld, how stupid was I to leave my mobile phone on the dashboard.

There is a strange odd feeling with in myself, one that calls for me not to leave her side, and although I have only moved a few metres I must strife on. I do not want to die staring at the moonlight, I do not want to die period, my life is not ready to end, I am in my prime, there is so much I can still do.

"I….will…..not die here….."

She watched you, her lips thin, her jaw clenched. She was torn. Wanting to help you but at the same time knowing that it was a useless attempt to reach your car. That was absurd. Even at death's door you would continue to deny her claims. It was obvious was it not? You guessed it yourself. You knew what she was and yet you still denied her. You had to die to be reborn but she had the odd feeling that you would not die... she did not believe that you could get very far with such a large open wound. Her teeth were true to their design. Your flesh was ripped, broken, and bleeding. Such foolishness to believe you could continue to be human in such a condition.

Her eyes found the blood you so easily spill before her. She bit the inside of her lip. The night was so dark and comforting but as you moved away from her, that comfort slowly drifted away. Cursing her own human nature, she moved forward, holding you around your waist and putting your arm around her shoulders. She loved you for a reason. Your humanity. A humanity she lost and had no use for but found it one of the very strengths that drew her to you. She did not look at you as she spoke, fearing her eyes would look as cold as she felt about the whole situation.

"Don't look at me like that... I could never go against your wishes."

How could she? Seeing him suffer. She could give him hope, a small ounce of hope. Whether she believed it or not. All his blood would have to fall so that his body could start anew, creating its own distinct blood and perhaps he would go on like she would. Roaming the forests, living until the sun sets behind silhouettes and dawn rises. Was it also hope that drove her to do such a thing?
